Welcome to the world of Cocoa Psycho, a liquid dimension where pure indulgence reigns.

This Imperial Stout borrows from the voluptuary decadence of 18th Century Russia, with its extravagantly smooth blend of crushed coffee beans, cacao nibs and dark malts.

Dig past the infusions of vanilla pods and toasted oak chips and eventually you’ll come face to face with the madness required to make this beer: a kind of depraved logic that would make Rasputin himself proud.

To fully unleash the aromas and bittersweet luxury of this stout we recommend drinking it from a stemmed beer glass before taking a sledgehammer to a Faberge egg.

Malts: Extra Pale, Wheat, Cara, Smoked, Black and Roasted Barley
Hops: Cascade, Fuggles and Goldings

Keg at Brewdog, Shepherds Bush, London. A dark brown/black coloured pour with a thin dark beige head on top. Roasty, malty, chocolate, coffee aroma. Taste is similar, roasty, malty, chocolate, coffee, quite bitter, sweet and rich. Good stuff but also quite hard to drink.

Big thanks to people at the MBR for the sample! Not too big, will rerate. Daaark pitch-like with a small brown head. Mild, slightly sticky malty aroma with notes of chocolate and raisiness. Slightly sticky, roasty sweetish stout, a bit oily but not as overbearing as some of this big guys can be. Very nice, and I hope to rerate it soon.

33cl bottle @home. Batch #281, BB 28/11/18. Pitch black, nice brown head. Sweet aroma, lots of dark chocolate and licorice at first in aroma, later roasted malt and molasses as well. Flavor is licorice, brown sugar, roasted malt, salt and cocoa, almost like eating cocoa powder. Dry long sweet chocolaty finish. Heavy stuff. Tad too sweet for me though.

Tap at RJ. Aroma dark malts, raisins, tobacco, dark chocolate. Dark brown stable head. Almost black colour. Taste is initially deliciously sweet grape chocolate. Heavily roasted with no astringency at all, only smooth creamy chocolatey goodness. Pleasant dark cofeeish chocolatey finish, long duration. Alcohol absolutely hidden. Easily drinkable. Killer beer.

33 cl. bottle split costs & contents with Kogymo. Procured from Willems. Looks gorgeous, black, thick dark mocha head which sadly doesn’t really last but otherwise picture perfect. Smells like sour coffee beans & grounds, ashes, herbal, tart red berries. Taste is sour coffee beans and grounds, dash vinegar, berries, herbal, ash in the back, roast & faint cocoa. Ashes & grounds body, lighter than usual for the syle. The sourness of the beans, the ash etc. This one doesn’t feel like coffee RIS should feel like. Not all that enjoyable.
