Welcome to the world of Cocoa Psycho, a liquid dimension where pure indulgence reigns.
This Imperial Stout borrows from the voluptuary decadence of 18th Century Russia, with its extravagantly smooth blend of crushed coffee beans, cacao nibs and dark malts.
Dig past the infusions of vanilla pods and toasted oak chips and eventually you’ll come face to face with the madness required to make this beer: a kind of depraved logic that would make Rasputin himself proud.
To fully unleash the aromas and bittersweet luxury of this stout we recommend drinking it from a stemmed beer glass before taking a sledgehammer to a Faberge egg.
Malts: Extra Pale, Wheat, Cara, Smoked, Black and Roasted Barley
Hops: Cascade, Fuggles and Goldings

10% Bottle at the First Kinki Tasting. Dark oily pour with a total umami rich aroma. Cocoa, chocolate, roasty aroma. Nice! Smokey, chocolate, cocoa, full body with a bit of roast. A great stout.

On tap at Beer Temple. Pours black with a very dark chocolate brown head that dissipates to the edges. Aroma has a creamy dark chocolate note with dark grains and a hint of roasted malt. Flavor has creamy chocolate with some roasted malts, dark grains and a hint of anise in the finish.

Spurs - Troms’ - Europa League elite tasting September 2013. Dark black (!) with a firm little brown head. Aroma of chocolate and coffee, with quite a bit of meaty smoke, and some fruit. Sweet, thick flavour of roasted malt, chocolate, cocoa powder, cold coffee, and sugar

Bottle @ Standard Liege- Esbjerg, Europa League. Pours pitch black with a creamy beige head. Roasted - almost burnt malts, with coffee, chocolate and wood. Quite some vanilla and charcoal. Smooth and full bodied. A no bullshit beer from Brewdog. They sometimes brew good beer!

Bottle from Brewdog online shop. Pours blacker than you think black can be with the darkest brown head I’ve seen on a beer. Smells of alcohol and chocolate. The mouthfeel is thick and oily at first with a light fizz but becomes a bit chalky. The initial flavour is raw alcohol with lightly charred wood and cocoa powder. It takes a long time for more flavours to fight their way past the alchol burn, but eventually some vanilla, tobacco smoke and chocolate did escape. I’ve never known a Brewdog beer to have such undisguised alcohol, even in their much stronger beers; it makes it taste unfinished and amateurish. Can’t help feeling that this was yet another of their beers that would have been much better on cask- their keg-only stance does seem daft sometimes. The beer does improve by the end but it’s still well below Brewdog’s normal standards.

Opaque black beer, small dark tan head. Slightly soft palate with mild minerals. Rich dark malt with bitter dark chocolate. Mild malt cream. Dry finish with a mild malty bitter linger. One dimensional.
