Welcome to the world of Cocoa Psycho, a liquid dimension where pure indulgence reigns.

This Imperial Stout borrows from the voluptuary decadence of 18th Century Russia, with its extravagantly smooth blend of crushed coffee beans, cacao nibs and dark malts.

Dig past the infusions of vanilla pods and toasted oak chips and eventually you’ll come face to face with the madness required to make this beer: a kind of depraved logic that would make Rasputin himself proud.

To fully unleash the aromas and bittersweet luxury of this stout we recommend drinking it from a stemmed beer glass before taking a sledgehammer to a Faberge egg.

Malts: Extra Pale, Wheat, Cara, Smoked, Black and Roasted Barley
Hops: Cascade, Fuggles and Goldings

Kremet gulbrunt skum. God duft av kaffe og sjokolade. Dyp sort farge. Nydelig smak av mye sjokolade, vanilje, kaffe og toffee. Dette er et nydelig desert øl. Drikkes mer enn gjerne igjen.

On tap @ Beer Temple. Pitch black color. Beige to light brown head, sticky. Aroma’s of roasted malts, fruit, molasses, soy sauce, sweet chocolate, a bit ground coffee. Flavor is moderate to heavy sweet, roasted. Fairly thick mouthfeel. Finishes roasted, ashy, moderate bitter.

På fat. Smak och doft av choklad, kaffe, vanilj, russin, plommon, fikon med toner av fat. Rund, krämig, fyllig. Lätt beska, en aning för mycket slår alkoholen igenom.

(Draught at BrewDog Stockholm, 30 Aug 2013) Pitch black colour with brief, brown head. Malty, roasted nose with notes of cocoa, black coffee, chocolate and hints of ashes. Malty, roasted taste with chocolate, cocoa, strong black coffee, liquorice, vanilla and a generous cocoa bitterness in the finish. Full body, thick and velvety mouthfeel. Quite sweet. Impressive cocoa and chocolate character. Hardly subtle, but very nice.

330ml prototype version shared at home. One of the darkest brown heads I’ve ever seen! Jet black liquid underneath. Nose is mostly chocolate, some vanilla. Slips down smoothly and makes me think of bedtime. Doesn’t quite deliver on the aroma, but a very nice beer to end a night on.

On tap at Beer Temple. Black colour, creamy beige head. Aroma of cocoa powder, coffee and cream, hard roasted malts, bitter chocolate. Flavour is a bit sweeter than expected, coffee and cream, cocoa, dark fruits, a bit of alcohol, bitter roast in the finish. Medium-bodied, soft carbonation.

Very dark brown, brown head. Dry cocoa nose. Cocoa, chocolate flavour, too. Somewhat thin. I expected more from this.

Sample at BrewDog tasting, Stavanger. Impressive appearance: pitch black colour, large brown head. Lovely roasty aroma with notes of coffee, cocoa and vanilla. The flavour is a tad less impressive but still good - with the same elements as the aroma, and decent hops in the finish.
