Welcome to the world of Cocoa Psycho, a liquid dimension where pure indulgence reigns.
This Imperial Stout borrows from the voluptuary decadence of 18th Century Russia, with its extravagantly smooth blend of crushed coffee beans, cacao nibs and dark malts.
Dig past the infusions of vanilla pods and toasted oak chips and eventually you’ll come face to face with the madness required to make this beer: a kind of depraved logic that would make Rasputin himself proud.
To fully unleash the aromas and bittersweet luxury of this stout we recommend drinking it from a stemmed beer glass before taking a sledgehammer to a Faberge egg.
Malts: Extra Pale, Wheat, Cara, Smoked, Black and Roasted Barley
Hops: Cascade, Fuggles and Goldings

Bottle at home. Poured a lovely colour with a minimal head, but what a colour to the head! It was verging on the black and I have never seen anything like it. A good nose of coffee, roasted malt and alcohol. The flavour was intense, with coffee, roasted malt, soy, chocolate and an overall pleasant savoury character. The mouthfeel was fantastic, oily, velvety, malty and very pleasant. It isn’t often that I am sad when I have finished a beer, but this was just such an occasion.

Bottle from Booths, Media City. Black with next to no head. Very strong tasting, with a sticky-sweet texture and taste. It’s very sweet with its roasted malt character, so not very roasted in reality.

On tap at Brewdog USA. Pours black with small tan head that lasts. The aroma is smoke, oak, roast, peat. Thick, chewy, roast, smoke, chocolate, peat, boozy finish, very good.

A black beer, a head is dark brown and medium sized. Aroma is balanced with chocolate, coffee, roastiness, liquirice, sweetness and vanilla. Taste is also nicely balanced, chocolate, salt liquirice, balanced sweetness, then bitterness and some wood. Medium+ bodied. Great and balanced beer with the strong elements.
