Jubileumbier ten gelegenheid van het 10-jarig bestaan van de Muifelbrouwerij. Imperial stout,
zeer vol en complex van smaak met de nadruk op gebrande moutsmaken.

Bottle from a local bottle shop. Aroma is sweet dark malt, sweet cocoa, soft roast, chocolate, some caramel. Flavour is quite sweet and mildly bitter. Body is medium. Quite sweet... Not a great Imperial Stout at all, but nice and drinkable with plenty of chocolate.

One of Muifel's standard beers apparently, but one I had never encountered before - thanks to Niek for this bottle, with which I opened the celebration of New Year's Eve. Pale greyish beige, membrane-like lacing, moussy, medium thick head over an ink black beer. Aroma of coffee grounds, burnt toast, unsugared black chocolate, cigar ashes, burnt blackcurrants, salmiak, wet leather, whisky, molasses, ink, hint of reduced venison gravy, bayleaf, black olive, blood. Restrained sweetness in the onset, dried and roasted blackcurrant effects along with a touch of blueberry and light black olive, slick but dim underlying sourishness; quite lively carb, a bit more than average for this style, thinning the mouthfeel somewhat. Toasty-nutty, brown-bread-crusty, bitter-chocolatey core, very mouth-filling with a confident dosage of coffee-like roasted bitterness enhanced by leafy hops (a tad wormwoody even) and warming, whisky-like alcohol. Roasty, a bit ashy but never too much, rounded, bitter imperial stout reminiscent of the early days of the genre in the Netherlands (think De Molen and Emelisse), though perhaps a tad overcarbonated and thin for this particular style. In any case very balanced and tasty, and I still prefer this kind of roasty old stouts over the sickly sweet pastry variations you see all too often these days.

Fles thuis geprobeerd met LiekevdV. Het is een donker bruin bier met een gebrande moutige geur met tonen van chocolade en koffie. De smaak is vol, gebrand, caramel en chocolade met een wat drop achtige afdronk.

Bottle. Almost black. Roast, laurel and licorice in the aroma. Malty dryish alcoholic flavor with laurel and licorice. Hint of coffee. Good enough, not great.

33 cl. bottle @ home, bought @ van Rooij, Culemborg. Pitch black with a nice firm tan head. Dark chocolate aroma with some coffee as well. Medium bitter taste with quite a dry finish. At the end some more, sweet, chocolate as well. Very nice straightforward imperial stout.
