Old Peculier is a beautiful, yet very simple beer, brewed using a very generous blend of finest pale, crystal and roasted barley with two bitter hops combined with the majestic and noble ‘Fuggle’ hop to produce a beer of awesome full-bodied flavour with subtle cherry and rich fruit overtones.

Bottle. Dark reddish brown. Almost black with ruby shades. Small head. Aroma is malty, fruity and vinous with a hint of chocolate. Taste of dark berries, black currants, toffee and a little bit of chocolate, bananas and coffee. Sweet but the finish is also a little bit sour and features some british hops. Low to medium carbonation. Creamy. Very balanced. Shows some characteristics of a Port. Lovely. An old peculiar favourite of mine.

500 ml bottle from a supermarket in London bb 30.09.17
Dark brown-copper body, with a big, creamy, lacing, beige head.
Aroma of toast, caramel, dried fruits, nuts, some spices, slight coffee.
Taste follows this, with some more dark bread
Medium, creamy mouthfeel, with a moderate carbonation.
Finishes smooth, toasty, medium roasty, bready, a bit spicy, a bit sweet.
Very nice. Smooth and very well balanced, with a great mix of roasty, toasty, bready and sweet notes. Lovely old-school style example, that is very aromatic, but also quite easy to drink.

50 cl bottle. Dark deep burgundy color, clear, big creamy beige head, lacing. Vinous smell. Aroma of dark roasted malts, cereals, cherry, molasses. Lots of woody tones. Warming rum-like alcohol, liquor, marker. Some raisins and licorice maybe. Very tasty, light salty, prominently sour, apparently sweetish ending up quite bitter. Low carbonation. Medium to full bodied, unexpectedly watery texture, dry sourish finish. It has something "wild", raw, yet evidently refined.

Review based on the BJCP2015 guidelines (style 17B). Bottle 50 cl - Batch L5103. AROMA: mild malty-sweet aroma with notes of some molasses, toffee and some caramel. slight toasted note. APPERANCE: very dark amber with reddish body. Clear. moderate, creamy, light-tanned head. TASTE: medium to low malty-sweet flavour with mild notes of toffee/caramel. low to no fruity esters. PALATE: medium-light body with moderate carbonation. OVERALL: A bottled Old Ale that doesnt do credit to the style.

500ml bottle from corner shop. Mid-brown to dark brown, somewhat translucent. Light aroma of liquorice and some chocolate malt. Sweet at first, deftly turning bitter until the end. Bitter coffee notes in the aftertaste. Good enough but not a patch on the cask version.

Rated from old notes. Pours frothy and creamy into the glass. Lightly carbonated. Distinctive sweet caramel taste with a hint of nuts. Well balanced. A good, hearty English ale.
