First brewed in Tacuba, Mexico in 1925, Modelo Negra, formerly Negra Modelo, is a medium-bodied lager with slow-roasted caramel malts brewed for a rich, smooth taste. Brewed longer to enhance its flavors, Modelo Negra redefines "Dark Beer" because it is exceptionally drinkable and remarkably smooth. This Munich Dunkel-style Lager is brewed with galena and super galena hops as well as caramel malt, black malt and two and six row malt barley. These ingredients are meticulously brewed together to give Modelo Negra that bright, rich, amber hue and that iconic, medium-bodied flavor.

Il gusto al naso è indirizzato verso il caramello. L'intensità olfattiva è normale e il modo in cui permane è sufficiente. Il manto birroso superiore è caratterizzato da una schiuma che resiste abbastanza. La grandezza delle bollicine è medio-fine. Il liquido è di consistenza limpida e anche qui la grandezza delle bollicine è medio-fine. Il colore è ambrato. Il corpo è medio e acquoso. L'amaro è poco incisivo. La forza gustativa è normale, con durata sufficiente. Le sensazioni boccali finali risultano di facile beva. Il finale è semplice e dissetante. Il retrogusto è di media intensità. L'aroma in bocca porta indizi di miele, di noci e di zuccherino.

Mild hints of caramel and toasted bread offset by corn sweetness and a metallic banana back end. Not undrinkable, but hopefully avoidable.

Bottle from systembolaget. I just hate when this happens (and it happens a lot with macrolagers), you think 'yeh this one is decent, much better than the others', then 'ok well time to rate it', then you think too hard and it instantly tastes bad. Urgh. This was one such case. On the one hand it is very nice, like a good tmavy. On the other, the alcohol is a bit too prominent.

Pours brown from the bottle with a stable off white head. Frothy. Very little aroma apart from light roasted notes, but was served extremely cold. Taste is caramel, a sweetness with mild sassafras inflections. Finish is short and unclean.

03/07/2017 33cl bottle @ a Mexican Restaurant in Langeleidsedwarsstraat, Amsterdam. No idea on the appearance because it was served in a bottle with a lemon on it. Why? Probably because it nearly had no taste and aroma. Faint grainy, no hop. Taste is faint, watery, pfff, Up yours Carlos!

12 ounce bottle into lager glass, bottled on 12/17/2016. Pours crystal clear reddish copper/brown color with a 1 finger dense off white head with great retention, that reduces to a nice cap that lingers. Nice spotty soapy lacing clings down the glass, with a moderate amount of streaming carbonation retaining the cap. Aromas of big brown sugar, brown bread, toasted biscuit, light nuttiness/chocolate, herbal, light pepper, and floral/grassy earthiness. Very nice aromas with good balance and complexity of dark/bready malts and light-moderate earthy hop notes; with great strength. Taste of big brown sugar, brown bread, toasted biscuit, light nuttiness/chocolate, herbal, light pepper, and floral/grassy earthiness. Light-moderate herbal, grassy, spicy hop; and slight roasted bitterness on the finish. Lingering notes of brown sugar, brown bread, toasted biscuit, light nuttiness/chocolate, herbal, light pepper, and floral/grassy earthiness on the finish for a while. Great complexity, robustness, and balance of dark/bready malts and light-moderate earthy hop flavors; with a great malt/bitterness balance, and zero cloying/astringent flavors after the finish. Perfectly clean on lager flavors, with zero yeast notes presence. Light-moderate dryness from bitterness, increasing through the glass. Medium carbonation and body; with a very smooth, moderately crisp, bready/grainy/creamy, and slightly sticky mouthfeel that is great. Zero warming alcohol as expected of 5.4%. Overall this is a great Vienna lager. All around great complexity, robustness, and balance of dark/bready malts and light-moderate earthy hop flavors; very smooth, crisp, clean, and refreshing to drink. Great rich Vienna/Munich malt flavors, with balancing noble hops. A very enjoyable offering, and spot on style example.

From old tasting notes. Clear reddish brown color with an ample beige head. Pleasant toasted malt aroma. Toasted malt and herbal hops upfront. Dry, slightly bitter hop finish. Good balance and body. Decent overall.
