While we were building our new brewery we were aging this beer in bourbon barrels previously used for our Barrel-Aged Framinghammer Baltic Porter. Lengthy aging allows the 13.5% ABV beer to mellow and develop a deep molasses-like sweetness with port-like dark fruit flavors. This beer is a sipper- you’ve been warned!

Bottle, 16.9oz, a whopping $17, from Fort Point Market, drunk 1/15/16.
Clear amber-copper body has a beige head atop showing moderate retention.
Bourbon and lots of it, in the nose. Coconut, spice, sugar, butter, booze, caramel all are incredibly overdone a la most of their barreled releases. I guess there’s a beer behind here, but you can’t get much more than caramel/toffee from it through all of this bourbon. That being said, if you love big bourbon aromas, this one is at least balanced in the sense that there’s enough sugar behind it to have it not come off as harsh/dry/astringent.
No difference in the flavor, just a mouthful of bourbon. Rich oak, spice, coconut and butter are "balanced" by rich caramel-vanilla-toffee sugars. Soft, malty palate shows light, but ample carbonation, light amounts of alcohol heat and bourbon lingering for days. No finesse or nuance (or beer) here. Oh well.
