While we were building our new brewery we were aging this beer in bourbon barrels previously used for our Barrel-Aged Framinghammer Baltic Porter. Lengthy aging allows the 13.5% ABV beer to mellow and develop a deep molasses-like sweetness with port-like dark fruit flavors. This beer is a sipper- you’ve been warned!

Draught, 2015 edition @ Beer Run (1/14/20). Hazy reddish brown with very small frothy beige head, spicy caramel aroma, adequate carbonation, mildly sweet caramel taste with cloves, nutmeg, cinnamon, woodsy flavor, alcohol undertones, smooth body, long woodsy finish. Quite boozy, but nice.

At the source: pours copper with small white head. Aroma is vanilla, sugar, malts, bourbon. Taste is fairly sweet. Vanilla and maltiness. Booze very well covered. Not as complex as I would have thought.

500 ml bottle split by T.J, thanks for the new MA tick. Wow... What happened with this bottle? Aroma is dirty dark fruits, wet socks, and mild infection.

Starts with a mild bourbon and turns into dirty athletes socks. Funky dark fruit. Infected someplace in the process. What a shame.

Poured from bottle purchased 1 year ago and stored in cellar. Upon opening was a gusher. Aromas of bourbon dark fruit smells like a barleywine. Taste is not good, infected. Not drinkable. Have another bottle. Too bad. --- Beer merged from original tick of Brewery Maker on 30 Apr 2017 at 20:33 - Score: 4
