Deep amber in colour, Old Winter Ale is a strong, satisfying beer with an aroma that picks out malt, cookies and liquorice. The prominent Crystal malts add sweet, nutty flavours, beautifully balanced by floral notes from Target, Challenger and Northdown hops.

Pours auburn from the bottle. The frothy off white head fails to linger. Aroma is caramel, toffee, and just a touch of milk chocolate. Taste is sweet to bittersweet up front and into the finish, with a steady caramel/toffee note throughout. Body is medium, a bit chewy. Impressive heft for a beer with such a mild ABV. Overall, pretty good. A sort of “bock-lite” but a pretty good one.

A rare beast from the brewery shop. A proper winter warmer for beer lovers outside the UK. No head and a lovely dark colour. The flavour and mouthfeel were all about the malt and the bitter hops. There was some sweetness lurking in the background, but it was perfectly integrated. This is a lovely beer and I have no idea why it is not available in the UK outside the brewery shop.

Bottle. A very pleasing ale, went down a treat. Warming and malty, caramely. Classic Fuller's taste. Decent.

Skled ubesværet og alt for raskt over drøvelen.

From old tasting notes. Deep reddish brown color topped by a thick, rocky beige head. Soft sweet toasted malt aroma hints at caramel. Bittersweet malt flavor has a peppery spiciness to it. A firm well-rounded ale with a pleasantly long dry finish and aftertaste.
