This is a very special beer for us. Give Me Truth was brewed just one month after Tree House moved into the garage on East Hill Road in Monson and has rested peacefully in a Buffalo Trace barrel for over 22 months since. The content of that barrel is here for you today to enjoy. What went into the barrel as an innocent but decadent Imperial Stout emerged as an astonishing treat that tastes much like a bourbon soaked chocolate bar and carries the nuance of a beer that can only emerge from extreme care and patience. We taste sweet dark fruit, bourbon chocolate candy, molasses, toffee, vanilla, cocoa, hints of honey... Please drink slowly and allow the complexities to reveal themselves as it warms...

Draught at EBF, 2/5/16.
Deep, ebony body shows light mahogany tints on the edges and low clarity otherwise. Tan head is medium-sized and fades steadily to cover.
Big bourbon, oxidation and toffee notes in the nose give an impression of both an English style (the toffee, raisin character) and also the more contemporary big, barreled, American version (strong bourbon, fudge, booze). The oxidation is light and perhaps ties it together, covering up some of the bourbon/barrel and yet drying out the big fudgey-toffee.
Chewy, thick, viscous, as you would expect, with a very enjoyable raisin-toffee character, leading to spicy bourbon, loads of vanilla and balancing roasted bitterness. Treacle and more toffee, with light raisin/prune accents finish, along with warming alcohol. For its size, it’s quite balanced between alcohol, bourbon and sweetness, though probably would be difficult to drink much more than 3-4 ounces. Nice beer and though I think it could use just a touch less sweetness, it’s hard to find too much fault.
