Clear deep amber beer, decent bubbly tan head. Smooth palate, semi dry, the carbonation is pretty modest. Smooth and bitterish toffee tinged malts, a little malt cream. Touches of Sherry and Madeira. Finishes smooth and semi dry with some salty overripe fruits. Interesting! Hides the 14% with aplomb and has a decent array of flavours but they are not quite as harmonious as they could be. Ultimately comes over like a good example of a 1970s or 1980s strong beer survivor.
It’s no doubt big and boozy, even rather thin bodied for the style. But also no place near anytbing good in terms of ferment or esters, everything, a bit acrid and muddled. Bier konig ams

33 cl. bottle @ home, bought online @ Glutenvrije webshop.
Hazy dark brown with a beige head. Caramel aroma with some light chocolate and coffee. Sweet taste with that familiar Klein Duimpje cooked cabbage off-flavor and a sweet finish. Not really bad, alcohol well hidden on this 14% ABV monster, but again spoiled by the Klein Duimpje off-flavors.

Bottle. A lightly hazy one, dark golden-orange in color and with a small, off-white head. The aroma is sugary and malty, quite fruity and with a certain warmth. Canned tropical fruits, white sugar, malts and alcohol in the flavor. Full body, soft carbonation and a little warmth in the mouth. Lasting finish. Lacks on bitterness this one, it’s too sweet as well. Not my kind of beer. 150711
