Bottle pour into nonic pint glass from One Stop Market. Appearance is dark brown with red hues--almost opaque--with light sparkle evident at the side of the glass, creamy beige head with fair retention and nice sudsy lacing. Aroma is dark fruits, alcohol, light roasted malts. Taste is dark fruit, dark chocolate with toasty malts, mild alcohol. Palate is medium bodied with thick texture, lively carbonation and toasty malt/fruit finish. Overall, a nice, standard baltic porter.

0.5 l bottle from ’MC Kiosk’, best before November 2016 (probably 1,5 years old). Pitch black with a medium large, frothy, slowly diminishing, beige head. Sweetish-malty, slightly roasty aroma of milk chocolate, coffee, licorice and some lovage. Moderately sweet, very roasty-malty, a bit umami and a little oxidized taste of dark chocolate, coffee, licorice, hints of lovage and soy sauce, followed by a long, rather roasty-bitter, umami finish. Full body, creamy to oily mouthfeel, soft carbonation. Wow! Didn’t expect such intense stuff at all. Flavours are a bit weird though, maybe already too old?! Still quite nice nevertheless.

500 ml bottle. Clear very dark ruby pour with a large light brown head and excellent retention. Good lacing. Very strong alcohol-forward bite. Dark bitter chocolate flavor is lost from the numbing alcohol. 9.5 ABV is WAY too much. Top 50? Guess this isn’t my style.

500ml Bottle - Black with a tan head. Raisins, plain chocolate and and some roasted and slightly smoky notes in the aroma. Black treacle, liquorice, plain chocolate and lightly roasted coffee in the taste. Indulgent and rich yet very easy to drink.

When I joined Ratebeer I decided not to add in any prior ratings. However have now decided to add in some prior ratings (OK - just because certain gaps in my maps, etc, were annoying me!). This was one of the 300 Beers To Try Before You Die booked that had been alluding me. However a colleague mentioned that he’d worked with a Polish guy who’d given him some beers. This was the last one left at the back of a cupboard. 3+ years past it’s BB date, but was still a decent, if not OTT, porter.

Bottle from Prohibicja, Ostroda, Poland and split at the EU themed 2nd Ipswich bottle share. Pours dark brown colour with a creamy, lasting off white head. Aroma of coffee, dark chocolate, and malt. Medium sweetness, fair amount of roasted bitterness. Body is medium/full, slick texture, carbonation is average. Roasted bitterness to finish.

Butelka 0.5l (11.01.2018).

Tuoksu paahteinen, hieman suklainen. Maku paahteinen, makea ja loppupuolelta hieman katkerammin humaloitu ja kahvinen. Keskitäyteläinen, nautittava portteri.

BOTTLE 50 CL. Pitch black with clear ruby highlights, beige head. A typical baltic aroma and flavour - dark malts, sweet chocolate, burnt sugar and hefty alcohol. Besides that, Zywiec has a weird hop profile - wild herbs with a bit of a medicinal edge. Quite good overall.
