Sampled at Boise’s Imperial Stout get together, over 120 bottles to choose from. Going with the flow on this rating. This one was one of my contributions.

2013 vintage bottle, sampled 3/15/14
Dark brown, mahogany pour with magenta highlights on the edges and tons of beige head that is thick and well-retained.
Prunes, light cigar and plentiful, sweet milk chocolate notes crowd around in this rich, nicely aromatic aroma. Dries out on the end, predictably, due to the alcohol, but dosent get sharp or solvent-like. A touch of wood dryness as well, and maybe a little bit of buttercream from said barrel, but nothing crazy, which is nice. Hoppiness is quite low, perhaps a touch of acidity but hops seems to be mainly for bittering, here.
Sweet, rich, rather roasty flavor has tons of natural carbonation lending a delightfully creamy, tight texture to the beer. Full bodied due to all the sugars but they are certainly dextrinous and not worty or underattenuated-like. Furthermore there’s a good dose of raisin/prune vinousness and some buttery oak to help balance. Has a decidedly vintage feel to it, perhaps from the lack of hoppiness and the fair amount of ashiness that emerges, along with the smooth, slick, creamy palate. Really nice. Certainly on the sweeter side, maybe a bit too much so, but enjoyable nonetheless.

750 ml bottle shared at the RBNG by Phatdog1. 2013 vintage. Pitch black color. Aroma is lots of roasted malts, ash, and burnt molasses.
Taste of big charred, toast, molasses, caramel, dark chocolate and roasted earthiness. Hints of coffee bitterness on the finish, lingering deep roast notes. Sweet without being cloying. Medium carbonation and very full bodied; with a chalky / ashy texture I enjoy. The ABV shows up a touch but it is a very green bottle. Real nice.

Location: 750 ml bottle from Central Market, 1/15/14
Aroma: The nose is full of roasted malts, with a little smoke, black coffee, and licorice
Appearance: Pours a dark brown color with a creamy light brown head and plenty of lace
Flavor: The taste is dry and roasty, lots of unsweet, dark malt flavors, black coffee, and licorice
Palate: The body is medium-full, thick and creamy on the mouth, with a long, heavy dry finish
Overall Impression: This is a pretty interesting one. There's some nice depth of malt to the aroma which leads to a very roasty, very dry flavor. I found this interesting, though I feel like it could have used just a touch of sweetness to balance it out. Still, quite nice overall.

On tap. A more or less black one, topped by a small, dense, tan head. Roasted nose with coffee, caramel, dark chocolate and a little touch of barrel. Raisins too. It’s full bodied and warning, with roasted malts, coffee grit, rum raisin and some molasses. Alcohol and hoppy bitterness too. Really long finish with a good bitterness and lots of dark flavors. Overall, a bit rough and unrefined, but well worth a glass or two. 130821

From a 22 oz bottle shared in Tucson AZ. Pours black with a tan head. Toasted malt aroma. Flavors of plums, dark cherries and hints of chocolate and coffee. A wonderfully;y complex range of flavors. This is a good one.
