On Friday Novemeber 15, Cellarmaker and Tired Hands brewed Taco Hands. So what is it? Well it’s a conceptual beer inspired by the king of street food. The base recipe is an IPA with a significant portion of corn in the form of flaked maize and taco shells. It is spiced with cumin, coriander, black pepper, sea salt, pasilla chiles, cilantro and the zest and juice of 140 limes. For hops we chose Citra and New Zealand Motueka to complement the floral, spicy, citrusy aspects of the beer.

On tap at Gourmet Haus. Unique with the lime showing nicely on the flavors. Solid mouthfeel and support from the adjuncts. A bit all over the place in an interesting way. Would like to try it again.

New batch for 2016 Cinco De Mayo. It pours a super hazy, almost cloudy yellow color with a creamy white head. The aroma is citrusy with some grapefruit, orange and grass. The flavor is a bit juicier with noticeable lime, passionfruit, orange and some very mild notes of pepper. More grass in the finish. Pretty smooth on the palate with low bitterness. I’m not getting any cilantro or salt, which is ok with me. Overall, ultra juicy with a light body, but enough sweetness to support it. Super tasty.

On tap at CellarMaker. Aroma is lightly citrus l citric with some light lemon. Some light coriander and spices. Medium light pale malt notes with some medium citrus and tropical fruit hop notes. Pours a very hazy, dull, golden yellow with a small, white head that recedes to a persistent film. Moderate lacing and small legs. Flavor is very similar to the citrus and spices notes that lingers after some nice fresh pico de gallo. Moderate bitterness with medium low pale malt notes. Nice citrus and tropical fruit hop character. Light spice in the finish. Mouthfeel is medium bodied with medium low carbonation. Low astringency and low alcohol warmth. Overall, this works surprisingly well. The taco spice notes work well with the fruit and citrus hop notes.

Pours a yellow-ish orange color. It’s quite cloudy, though not opaque. Medium sized white head. Moderate retention, fades pretty quickly to a dusting of bubbles. The aroma has a whole bunch of fruity hops along with a grainy cornmeal flavor and a lot of lime. The hop flavor is fruity and fresh - tangerines, lemons, limes, peaches, pineapples, grapes, all sweet and tasty. The spicing is fairly mild. I’m mostly getting the lime juice with a little bit of cilantro and just touches of the rest. On the other hand, the taco shells and chips are quite distinct in the aroma. It has a grainy cornmeal graininess that actually works really well with the lime and hops. Very refreshing beer that would go well with food, specifically tacos. Light mouthfeel. Fairly dry. Mild bitterness. Fun to drink.

Draught @ Cellarmaker, San Francisco, CA
Pours hazy yellowish orange with a smooth head. Aroma of fruity juicy hops, spices, lemon, zesty citrusy notes, lime and malts. Taste is smooth, zesty and fruity juicy with loads of different spices, lime, lemon, grapefruit, peppers and caramel. Finish is smooth, caramely malty and hoppy with loads of zesty fruits and spices. Pretty nice IPA with a touch of quite untypical spices that fit in surprisingly well.
