In order to survive in the 14th century one needed to be a force to be reckoned with. In Brittany, Spain and France this knight proved his mettle in battle. This tart blueberry ale was brewed in one of our 3,000 gallon foeders in his honour.

Dark red. Aroma is some yeast funk, dried apples, some other berries. Taste is much tannins, sour funk and lots of bitter stuff. Probably past its prime...

Bottle. Hazy ruby color with white head. Aroma is wine barrel, grapes, wood, leather. Taste is grapes, funky, tart, leathery; basically Balsamico without the sweetness. Puckering finish with medium carbonation. Excellent, at least at this age.

750 mL waxed bottle poured, with much thanks to Tcon for the share. Always a treat. A bright, glowing, reddish orange pour with a fading head. A very tart grape and blueberry aroma. Extremely sour impression to start. Flavor is a ton of sweet, but mostly sour blueberry, grape, and red wine notes. Lingering wine and tart berry finish. Very nice.

Tap at FFF. Blueberry purple amber body. Thin, patchy, off-white head. Pretty awesome blueberry aroma. Awesome blueberry depth. Solid US sour. Jammy sweet blueberry. Optimum. Enjoyable.

Bottle: Poured a hazy burgundy color ale with a nice large foamy head with good retention and light lacing. Aroma of tart notes with some oak and light cherry notes with some funky notes and light blueberry notes are also perceptible. Taste is a complex mix of tart and oak notes with light cherry and quite a bit of blueberry notes with some funky notes and light residual sugar. Body is about average with good carbonation. Super complex beer with good drinkability and well balanced acidity.
