We've used loads of hops from North America - Columbus, Centennial, Amarillo, Citra and Cascade - because we just love the bold aromas they bring to the beer. To balance out all this hoppy goodness we've added lots of Rye, plus some pale ale and cara malt

330ml bottle from Stirchley Wines, as Adnams Rye IPA. Pours dark amber with thin beige head. Aroma of dark fruits & soft caramel. Taste is weak and thin, a touch of caramel and malt with slight citrus. For a ’hop freak’ I’d have thought Belinda could’ve pushed the boat out a bit more. Also where’s the rye?

33 cl. bottle. Hazy, dark amber bordering brown with a thin off-white head. Fruity aroma with grasses, herbal-spiced notes - the rye malts - caramel and bread. Light citrus and grapefruit. Taste is light bitter. Medium body with a creamy texture and a soft carbonation. Finishes dry and fruity with herbal-spiced rye malts and caramel. I like the rye malts in this one.

Fra fat på Charlie’s Bar, København juli-14: mahognyfarget med kort beige skum. Lett karbonering og slank kropp gjør den lett å helle over drøvelen. Litt rugsyrlighet kler humlen godt. Tørr mot slutten. Men alt i alt en lettvekter, ingen match for Mike sin rye ipa.

Bottle from More than Beer. BB 31 03 15. Clear copper coloured, with an off-white thin head. Nose is crystal and caramel malts, rye, grassy hops. Flavour is caramel malts, rye, grassy, fairly bitter, with a citric hoppiness. Not hopped quite like IPA standards, but very enjoyable nonetheless. Finish is fairly bitter and dry. Well balanced.

Bottle from the Adnams shop in Southwold. Pours deep amber with a negligible head. Sweet, almost tropical flavours up front, then a hefty bitterness kicks in. Strong spicy notes add interest, before toffee flavours come through to balance the bitterness. A rich, wine-like mouthfeel is set off against a very dry finish. Yet another great beer from Adnams; an aggressive US-style brew is given Adnams’ trademark superb balance and mouthfeel. Nice one.
