Clear dark purple to brown beer, no head. Aroma: sweet caramel, alcohol, lots of chocolate and chocolate milk, cocoa powder, vanilla, mocha, ashes, dried fruits, little spicy if you pay attention to it. MF: no carbon, full body, syrupy texture. Taste: lots of chocolate, sweet caramel, hot chillies, vanilla. Aftertaste: chillies, sugary, caramel, very hot, burning the throat, some vanilla. Down right special, and despite the hot chillies, still drinkable. A small glass at least. In contrast to to the previous chili beers I had, I actually like this one.

Bomber shared at RBSG 2012 Grand Tasting by NoSignsOfPain. Thanks! Liquid is black and quite viscous with just a small tan head and some lacing. Aroma is very much smoked chilies but also some deep chocolate, raw sugars, coffee and maybe just a hint of the cognac barrel. Taste is heavily sweet (as usual with the DL), but also quite hot (not GFK hot) with really nice notes of deep, roasted chilies. Full bodied with low carbonation. Enjoyed this quite a lot, but I’m a chili lover.

At RBSG La 2012. Usually oil-like appearance with legs. Huge peppery aroma with cognac and coffee and chocolate. Foul, burning hot flavor that just goes nowhere. Huge sweetness mangled together with burning peppers. I guess some people dig it. I found it vile.

Bottle. Earthy ancho pepper, chocolate malt and cognac aroma. Oily black with no head. Sweet dark chocolate and vanilla initially followed by a crescendo of chili pepper flavor. Warmth lingers for a long time and increases with each drink. Glorious - worth ever penny.

Bottle. Sweet rich chocolate, earthy / smoky chili pepper, and prune (as it warmed) aroma. Opaque black with a creamy tan ring. Swirling it in the glass it was thick, sticky and syrupy. Big sweet chocolate and earthy chili flavor, some light vanilla. The chili burn was perfect, creating a warm rosy glow in the mouth that slowly built as I continued to sip, but never became more than was pleasant. The chocolate flavor reminded me a bit of chocolate covered cherries, without actually tasting like cherry, probably a result of the cognac barrel aging. Full creamy, smooth, sticky body, with a pleasant burning warmth. I was fortunate to be able to taste this side by side with the Vanilla Bean Bourbon Barrel Aged Dark Lord, and decided that the Muerte is the beer closest to perfection that I’ve ever tasted. I’m not prone to gushing, but I had to make an exception this time.
