750mL flip top. 2015 vintage. This is definitely a single barrel, by that I mean it could use some blending. Been drinking this slowly over the past 2 hours. Its a hazy, cloudy golden color, looks dirty. The beer is an acetic vehicle, not unbearable and not overbearing but definitely a one trick pony. Its also only lightly carbonated. The acetic quality gives off some vinegar, fruit vinegar, melon and berries. However, there is an acidic burn at the back of my throat after a little bit of time. I think this needs to be blended because it has a real nice acetic character but needs more to balance the beer.

19/VII/15 - 75cl bottle @ Velootje (Gent) - BB: n/a (2015-944) Thanks to Alengrin and Lieven for sharing the bottle!

Pretty cloudy orange beer, no head. Aroma: fruity, oak, tannins, sourish, some brett. MF: no carbon, medium body. Taste: bit sweet, lots of grains, malty, very sourish, lemony. Aftertaste: really sour, vinegar, lemon juice, bit fruity. Too harsh.

Tasted in the most unlikely of circumstances, namely at the infamous Velootje pub in Ghent, the owner of which apparently got a bottle of this as a present from an American customer. Virtually no head apart from some loose, off-white, quickly vanishing bubbles; hazy peach blonde colour. Typical sour ale aroma: unsweetened yoghurt, buttermilk, green plum, lime, hay, barnyard, lemon zest, pineapple, dry white wine, hints of wood, bourbon and vanilla but not too overpowering. Very estery taste, fruity with hints of peach, green plum, sour berries and grapes; sour indeed, but a soft, gentle, lactic acidity rather than sharp lemon acid; evidently soft carbonation, supple body, bit creamy, dryingly tart finish with hints of woody, vanilla-like tannins, bourbon indeed (in the form of a sweetish, warming but non-astringent alcohol presence), very low in the hops department, which is only appropriate for the style. Very interesting, big cheers to Lieven!

Bottle - White grape, some citrus and light vinegar. Cloudy gold with almost no head. Tart apricot, light fruity notes, touch of funk and a mellow and light tartness in the finish. Nice and balanced, but I don’t get any bourbon notes at all.

An interesting 75cl swing top that pours with a clear deep gold body that supports a weak set of off white bubbles. The aroma offers up tartness, some earthy funk and then hay, earthy manure mixed with apple and pear fruitiness. Interesting. The taste delivers similar notes such as a quick hit of tartness and then it gets into funky earthiness and a mild earthy feces note. To midway mild apple and pear like fruitiness show up to ground the experience in just the right amount of light fruity sweetness. This is solid stuff with depth and breadth and interesting and not just tart and acidic.

750 swing top from Wine and Cheese in Clayton, MO. Pours translucent orangey gold with a few white bubbles. Moderately sour aroma. Maybe with alcohol. Med body or nearly. Flavor is really pretty sour. Fruit. Hardly a hint of bourbon for me, but lots of wood. The sour is actually burning a bit (like dilute acetic acid). Actually more sour than a lot of sour/wild ales. Very sour light stone fruit sort of thing. Maybe I got a "good" bottle.
