Belgian-Style Ale Fermented with Pure Raspberries

Blushing Monk is brewed with a ridiculous amount of raspberries and with a Belgian yeast strain that keeps our head cellar operator from sleeping for a week. It pours a stunning deep berry red and, at 9.2% ABV, has a surprising kick. The perfect dessert beer, it can be enjoyed on its own or paired with fresh cheeses, fruit, cakes and more.

(Bottle) Hazy dark red colour with frothy, off-white head. Fruity nose with notes of raspberries, red fruit, caramel and a slight vinegar sourness. Fruity, slightly tart taste with raspberries, red fruit, some wood, syrup, a touch of balsamic vinegar and a sweet and sour finish with fairly moderate bitterness. Almost full body, with a certain sweetness. Really tasty, but possibly a bit one-dimensional and fairly sweet. Nice one.

Bottle from Brewers Haven. Violet pour with light pink head. Aroma is berries, raspberries, woody notes and some funk. Taste starts with big fruity sweetness, mild tartness. Kind if sticky, thick. But great...

On tap. Clear deep ruby red with a thin skin of bubbles. Huge berry aromas and flavors. Fairly tart and some good Belgian yeast character. More raspberry flavors later and some tannin like bitterness. Lingering sweet fruitiness.

Bottle from Craft Brewed. Pours a clear blood, ruby red with a finger of off-white foam that dissipates to a ring. Raspberry cough syrup aromas dominate the nose with some peppery yeast phenols in the background. Lowish carbonation, with a syrupy, sticky cough syrup texture that 'gross' is really the only word I could think of. Boozy, thin and syrupy with a weird raspberry-like flavor at the end. This is not good...but I don't like rubaeus either.

Ungodly sweet, unbearably sweet, so sweet, as my wife stated, it should be served from a frat boy's bathtub. Overwhelming jammy, syrupy raspberry. That's it. Like a liquid blue razz Blowpop. Resembles not so much a beer as a mass-produced malt beverage for the beer-phobic. Dammit, Founders.

2015 edition. Shared with Aminatchime. brought back from my trip to NYC. Pours dark copper, redish brown. Small white head, but at least it's stable. Smell is raspberry jam, medium high to high in intensity. Tad Sugar ( candi Sugar ?) . no malts, hops, or other aspects. Taste is sweet, dark Sugar, raspberry jam. Not really malty, accept for the medium to medium-thick mouthfeel. Soft carbonation. reminds me a tad of KRE, but way less intense, of course. Should have been fun to try them together, perhaps, but my KRE has been drank years ago. Great beer, it was, and so is this one, even though less intense. It held up quite nicely, against all odds. Not sure if still in production ( or will be ) but this is one to grab a bottle of, if you have the chance.

Bottle, 2015. Nose is pronounced raspberry, strawberry, almond, marzipan. Taste is very sweet marzipan, raspberry, lactose, cheese cake, vanilla, cough medicine, yeast, slight tartness. Mouthfeel is oily. This beer was 2015 consumed in late 2016d, and had no real hop profile, which I suspect my have been deleterious. Well put together and didn?t taste like fruit juice, but I can?t see myself ever drinking it again, too sweet for me.
