This special bottling of Innis&Gunn has been matured in rare oak barrels from a famous distillery in Ireland. These barrels had been used to mature one of the great triple distilled Irish whiskeys. The result of this unique maturation is a big, full flavoured, complex beer with a delightful warming finish.

Bottle @ home shared with Dutchdrebus. Fantastic deep dark red color (when held into the light) with a medium sized, fairly quickly diminishing beige head. Smell roasted malts, some wood and liquor. Taste malts, a bit whisky, lightly wood, lightly earthy. All fairly subtle though. Bit bitter in the finish. Medium carbonation and body. Nice one.

Bottle @ benzai. Black with some ruby redness shining through, small off-white head. Smells wood, some dark chocolate, cognac, slightly roasty. Tastes sweet, dark chocolate, roasty. The whisky cask doesn’t really stand out in the taste. It’s all quite suble, but that’s nice. Medium to full body, silky and low carbo.

500 ml bottle, courtesy of Meilby. Close to black body with a big beige head. Aroma of dark malt with mild whisky and oak. Not a particular strong aroma, but sometimes as with whisky oaked beer it could be very nice and pleasant anyway. Quite mild and smooth in flavor as well. Soft, dark malt, light alcohol and mild whisky and oak. Some roast. Fine body. A mild but pleasant one.

Bottle. It pours a clear, dark brown body under a finger-thick beige head. There’s too much butterscotch on the nose, but else it’s quite pleasant, with roasted malts, hints of coffee and a touch of booze. The flavour is pretty much the same, with some bitterness blending in. Full body, soft and pleasant carbonation. Roasted, buttery finish with some bitterness. A decent beer, but as the other Innis & Gunn beers, it’s way too buttery. 120831

Smells like sweetened malt. Pours dark, cola like. No lacing. Taste is mostly bitter ith only a small hint of sweetness. I can taste a little of the irish whisky. Has a littly boozy oak. Not bad, just a little overpriced at lcbo.

Pours black with a large, lasting head.Nose shows some woody oak, sweet light malt, a bit of roast and faint caramel.Very sweet flavours with only a little roast to balance it out. Some oak shows through but not as much as their other beers.Could use more carbonation. Body feels watery for this type of beer.

Bottled. A black beer with a huge lazing dark brown head. The aroma has notes of roasted malt, whiskey, alcohol, and chocolate. The flavor is sweet with notes of whiskey, roasted malt, wood, alcohol, and chocolate, leading to a dry woody finish.

12 ounce bottle. Not a fan of the presentation, looks like a cola bottle. Pours a dark brown color with a medium grey head. The aroma is big smoked malts and light fruit. A sweet and fairly light beer with big oak and some whiskey, a bit of vanilla and candied fruit. Dry. Warm. Certainly has some barrel to it and a bit of heft. Good. Needs more roast to be better.
