An important style to the history of beer is the Grottenbier, this is a beer that is aged in a cave! In the past refrigeration didn’t exist so brewers realized that caves provided the perfect constant temperatures for fermentation(many US brewers today are also starting to use caves again for barrel aging). This poured a slight muddy brown with a yeasty belgium aroma. The carbonation was light & zesty with citrus, spice & mint in the finish. It’s a great belgian beer. 昔前に洞窟でビールを寝かせる。このGrottenbierはベルギーに作りました。美味しいベルギービールだよ。

Nose, sweetish, cellars, lots of leather, slight bubblegum. Taste is cola, leading through oak into a pepper and spice finish. Cloves are very prominent in the finish. Mouthfeel is a little thin. A pleasant dubbel, which avoids the mistake of being too sweet.

0.75l corked bottle from Etre. This is a cloudy dark red-plum-brown beer with a impressive big and lasting off-white fluffy top. The nose is light Belgian with dark candied sugar, yeast, candied red apples, a bit on the sweet side perhaps, but quite nice. It's above average on the carbonation carbonation level and it has a light oily - almost a bit thin mouthfeel. Not as sweet as the aroma suggested. Almost what is called dry actually and the taste itself is kinda dusty and dark nutty. Old plums and unsweetened figs. A little bit of dry chocolate paper with traces of both yeast and alcohol. Perhaps not the most sophisticated and complex beer I've ever had, but it's tasty and definitely nice. A bit of a alcohol sting in the finish and aftertaste. A full bottle perhaps a bit to much to keep it interesting all the way through. Should probably have shared this with someone. 05.06.2013

Bottle at Taps Beer Bar, Kuala Lumpur. Poured a dark brown with a huge frothy off-white head. The aroma is dry yeast and malt, leading to a medium to weak bitter, slightly watery flavour, with yeast, malt and a little liqourice bitterness too in the palate and the smooth finish. A fine beer.
