Witkap-Pater Special is a top-fermented beer with refermentation in the bottle. The color is blond amber, deep blond. The beer tastes bitter, especially in the aftertaste. It also tastes a bit malty. It beads beautifully and flows in gently.
Initially launched under the name ''Greut Lawauitj'' the Witkap-Pater Special was especially brewed for the "European Belleman Championship" held in Ninove in 2004. The Belleman or Town Crier is a person who rings the bell and broadcasts news in the streets.

Poured into a teku glass. Cloudy orange amber, tall frothy white head, receding slowly, fair lacing; aroma roasted malts, caramel, light dried dark fruit, bit apple syrup, brown sugar; taste medium sweet and bitter, malty, toffee, fruity notes, sweetbitter finish, bit peppery; medium body, oily texture, good carbonation; pleasant and drinkable.

20/02/2016 - 33cl bottle @ Sporthal Ninove Clear orange amber with medium white head. Nose is grains, orange. Taste is moderate grains, some sweetness, some bitterheid, a bit spices.

Bottle as Special. Nicely hoppy nose, lemon, grass, biscuity malt. Medium amber color with a huge, fine head. Flavor os biscuits, prickly hops, lemon, rather peppery finish. A clean and enjoyable drinker, very nice.

The follow-up to Greut Lawauitj, something in between a dubbel and a Belgian amber ale (spéciale belge), a bit stronger than Greut Lawauitj and perhaps a little bit less nutty, but otherwise no noteworthy differences. --- Beer aliased from original tick of Greut Lawauitj on 19 Aug 2014 at 12:40 - Score: Appearance - 6 | Aroma - 7 | Flavor - 7 | Texture - 6 | Overall - 5.5. Original review text: Session amber beer with thick, cream white, irregularly formed head, misty amber colour. Fruity and nutty aroma, peach, grapefruit, ’speculaas’, cloves, aniseed, cake, hazelnuts, herbal hops. Soft fruity taste with rather strong carbonation, light nutty and caramelly maltiness, light sweetishness, gentle spicy accents with herbal hops, not bittering further in the finish, which therefore ends rather abruptly and even a bit watery. Not entirely the same as Witkap Pater Special, but very, very close...
