Our Grand Prestige, brewed with four different malts, is also described as barley wine. In the ripe, full taste, bitter and sweet are remarkably well-distinguishable. The taste of Hertog Jan Grand Prestige is appreciated by connoisseurs and enthusiasts far beyond our borders, as proven by, among other things, the golden awards at various renowned beer competitions. As Grand Prestige is stored for longer, that wonderful taste develops even further. After a few years, the taste is reminiscent of a beautiful old port wine.

31st Jan 2020, International Beer Exchange, Pre-Brugge Bier Festival at De Bierboom. Sample from a bottle. Light haze to the dark brown body, tanned foam head. Malty molasses in the nose and taste, some yeasty notes too. A light dark fruitiness appeared as the beer warmed a little, nice!

300ml bottle [2017 vintage]. Hazy, darkest brown colour with small, thick, creamy, moderately lasting and lacing, beige head. Yeasty fruity and sweet-ish, caramel malty aroma, notes of dark caramel, dried fruit, raisin, plum, sultana, cherry, whiffs of alcohol. Taste is sweet-ish and minimally dry, yeasty fruity and caramel malty, notes of dried fruit, raisin, sultana, cherry, plum, fig, date, a dry touch of fruit parings, some dark caramel, a minimally woody touch, matching bitter hoppy counterpart; relatively well, though not completely hidden alcohol. Viscous texture, soft and minimally cloying palate, fine, soft, still efficacious carbonation. Balanced, harmonious and integrated. Not outstanding, but definitely a classic - useful as reliable point of reference concerning style.
