Our Grand Prestige, brewed with four different malts, is also described as barley wine. In the ripe, full taste, bitter and sweet are remarkably well-distinguishable.
The taste of Hertog Jan Grand Prestige is appreciated by connoisseurs and enthusiasts far beyond our borders, as proven by, among other things, the golden awards at various renowned beer competitions.
As Grand Prestige is stored for longer, that wonderful taste develops even further. After a few years, the taste is reminiscent of a beautiful old port wine.

An old classic. It’s AB which sucks but it’s a great beer and at a Euro in AH it’s good for cooking too. Not complaining at drinking what’s left over!

Vintage 2018: Always good to keep some strategic reserve. Starts a little boozy, than lots of dried fruits, apricots, caramel, toffee, sweet. Full body. Nice!

2016 vintage in 2020... no explosion, nice. Smell-medium strong, caramel, sweetness, cake, more caramel, iris, candy. Maybe one of sweetest smelling beers ever could be stronger though. Foam- thin, weak malt, faint caramel and not much else. Head is small, brown, white medium-dark to light. Sticks a bit. Appearance- resealable bottle, generally simple look. Very dark amber color, clear, no carbonation. From - snifter Taste - weak malt, caramel, sweetness, faint roast and not much else. Alcohol is VERY well hidden, the sweetness is very subtle but pleasant.. I must admit, that after some time alcohol does appear, but it is still not prominent at all, but it is where it all ends, it is sweet, caramel, malty, no Belgian notes, easy-drinking quadrupel somehow even when you feel it Yet all put together it feels lacking a bit.

A reall nice barleywine from hertog Jan. Pours dark brown with little head. Aroma is caramel, prune and fig, booze. Big body. Flavour is malty, rich, fig, prune. Really nice.

330ml bottle from Beer Hawk - Deep auburn body, thin off white head. Nose is rich boozy cake fruit, taste prune heavy, dark fruits. Alcohol warmth adds another dimension. Enjoyable.

300ml bottle. Pours very dark brown with a medium head. Aroma is boozy raisin and toffee. Taste has caramel and raisin to start with a woody toffee apple finish. Boozy aftertaste.

2019 bottle. Dark brown with a creamy to frothy crown that lingers. Aroma full of caramel, molasses, figs. Taste is moderate licorice sweet with a light, woody dryness on the backside. Medium bodied, moderate carbonation, light warmth at the end but the alcohol is very well disguised. Goes down dangerously easy. Good!

Bottle from Beer Hawk. (2019 vintage) Deep chocolate brown with a thin tan head. Aroma burnt brown sugar, dried fruit and liquorice. Taste sweet to light bitter. Medium to full body.
