Our Grand Prestige, brewed with four different malts, is also described as barley wine. In the ripe, full taste, bitter and sweet are remarkably well-distinguishable. The taste of Hertog Jan Grand Prestige is appreciated by connoisseurs and enthusiasts far beyond our borders, as proven by, among other things, the golden awards at various renowned beer competitions. As Grand Prestige is stored for longer, that wonderful taste develops even further. After a few years, the taste is reminiscent of a beautiful old port wine.

Bottle at home from Schiphol Amsterdam, 5th September 19. Pours a chestnut brown beer. Aroma is dark fruit, malts, caramel and molasses. Taste is sweet, dark fruit, brown sugar, molasses. Very good especially for the price.

Bottle. Hops and raisins in the aroma. Porto, and an alcohol burn in the taste. Dry mouthfeel. Highly carbonated. (7 3 7 4 14 = 3.5) Bottle: Arcener Grand Prestige (oktober 1986, tasted March 6, 2007). Vinous aroma with chocolate and raisin. Thin. Sherry flavor with grapes and some reamining sweetness. Still a pleasant beer after 21 years (7 3 6 3 13 = 3.2). A fresh sample (2006) indicates the beer has lost complexity and gained further sweetness, with even notes of chewing gum, so I lowered the rating somewhat. A bottle with a best before date from april 2009, tasted in march 2011 showed that this beer still matures well. Porto, roast, hints of smoke and dried fruit.

For the record... Flat, oxidated, mold in the aftertaste. Badly stored by the owner. No rating.

Bottle. Copper/brown/mahagony with a small but short-lived head. Aroma of bananas, malts, caramel and marzipan. Taste is bananas, malts, rum, sugar, caramel, raisins and dark berries. Low carbonation. Almost creamy but also kinda süffig. Very balanced. Low booziness. Quality Quad.

Zo te zien is het een 2004. Rijpt niet als een grote fles vermoed ik, maar nog steeds niet verkeerd.
