330mL bottle, pours a deep dark mahogany with a small beige head. Aroma of cocoa powder, a bit of coffee, and some faint dark fruits. Flavour of cocoa powder, a tad smoky, light coffee and some mild roast. Very light-bodied, and very watery, but solid enough flavours. Decent enough.

330ml bottle, 5.2% abv, carried back home from Vinmonopolet Vika in Oslo. Beige head with a solid foamy stand. Good spotty lacing down the glass. Unclear, dark red-brown. Welcoming half-sweet aroma of mocha chocolate. Chocolate, nuts and oatmeal to the taste buds added by subdued yeasty notes. Smooth, dry and sweet to the finish. Likable. Shared with Finn (Tromsø, 04.10.2012).

Bottle - Sweet chocolate and alcohol on the nose. Opaque dark brown with a creamy but small persistent head. Nice roasted malts and chocolate with coffee on the finish. Palate is very watery, which is nice if you don’t want that heavy feeling, but is odd with such robust flavours. Very nice, will likely have many more.

33cl bottle from Vinmonopolet, Vika. Pours very dark, almost black, with a huge tan head. Aroma of coffee, roasted malt and wood with hints of licorice, fruits and spices. Quite dry and malty with a light bitterness in the finish. Medium body. Pleasant, and a bit unusual porter.

Bottle, 9C. Very dark brown with an inch of light tan head that fades to a coat. Aroma of mocha, red berries, tar, pepper, vanilla. Medium bodied, not a rich beer. Sweet before firm bitterness and ashes. Salty dark chocolate, some milky toffee, red berries, modest but intense roasted flavours, dry finish with slight carbonic astringency. No magic, just good balanced drinking.

Draught, Cheval Blanc. They put this on while we were there, and we couldn’t say no. Medium brown with a thin head. Chocolatey and a little bit fudgey aroma. Moderate chocolate and some light fudge. Good stout.

Bottle. Very dark brown with giant light brown head. Aroma is roasted malts, chocolate, coffee, caramel and a little liquorice. Flavour is roasted malts, chocolate, coffee, little liquorice, hops, medium bitter, medium sweet and a little smoke.

Bottle from De Bierkoning, Amsterdam. Cola coloured with moderate carbonation but no head. Big coffee notes with a touch of dark chocolate and porridge oats, leading to a roast dry finish. Very smooth drinking and excellent all round.
