Eagle Claw Fist was a part of our core lineup in the early days as a punchy Imperial Amber Ale. It was one of our favorites and we’ve missed it ever since it was retired.

We finally found an excuse (our 10th Anniversary!) to dust off the recipe and update it for 2019 with a more expressive, modern hop bill that balances strong malt flavors with notes of citrus, pine, and a touch of resin. Pick up a 4-pack and start brushing up on your Clown Shoes Kung Fu.

The Gibson, Brooklyn tap ($7): Pours red with an off-white head. Aroma is hops: some fruity, citrus, bit floral, with a nice darkish malt backbone. Taste is quite bitter and dry. Hoppiness permeates, but rests on the malts. Good combination. Good, but not all that interesting.

Medium to good yellowish head, irregular, over deep copper-amber ale. USA hops, resiny, bit vegetal, faint exotic fruit (passion-, rosewater), bit vegetable oil. Bitter-metallic; bit of dried fruit with all sweetness overpowered by the resiny hops. Finish is quite a bit empty, short of watery. Quite spritzy, slick-oily but not very well-bodied. Finish lets down, rest as expected.

From a 650ml bottle on 16/6/2013 (shared by Butz - thanks). Pours a very cloudy very dark reddy brown with a small head. Has a powerful, lovely fruity, hoppy aroma with lots on piny notes. In the mouth, it’s really flavoursome, with sweet dark, stone and citrus fruit, lots a caramel and a touch of toasty malt. This is an absolute hop bomb, with a huge lingering, resiny, piney, dry bitterness. The palate is quite full and a bit creamy and the carbonation medium. An outstanding beer and a particular treat for hop heads.

Bottle at the Imperial tasting - Copenhagen. Thanks to Ken-O. Pours clear amber with a fine, white foam head. Medium sweet flavor, quite bitter, lots of pine and dirt. Medium bodied with fine carbonation. Mild resinous finish, mostly earthy, bitter grass. So so.

22oz bottle. Murky brown body, lacy off-white head. A really nice imperial amber, which is pretty close to a Barleywine. Big citrus hop bill, solid woody amber malt body. A really well done beer, quality product.

Sample at Yard House in Houston. Cloudy copper color with a medium off-white head that diminishes slowly. Partial rings of lacing on the glass. Aroma of citrus, hops and malt. Medium-bodied with flavors of resiny hops, malt and citrus. The finish is malty up front and leaves a piney hops aftertaste. Decent all around.

Tap at the Craft Beer Co - 02/04/12. Dark amber to red in colour with a creamy head. Sweet malty nose with a little background berry fruit, caramel and piney hops. All the aromas in the taste, bready, some orange peel and sugared candy with a bitter dry finish. Medium bodied with a good level of carbonation.
