Brewed exclusively for Toronado SF 30th Anniversary. Served with a side of grit, Garage Service is a blend of gold and red sour beers aged in oak barrels with plums and prickly pear that drives notes of candied plums, dried berries, and orange peel.
The name comes from the iconic neon that hangs above the bar. Originally th sign was attached to the Manx Hotel which opened in 1909 on Powell St at O’Farrel (it is now the Villa Florence). In the early 90’s a Toronado regular, Andrew Franklin, who was working on the hotel renovation saved the garage service sign from being thrown away and gave it to Dave.

Tasting at Salesforce, bottle; 6.1% ABV
Cloudy blond colour with a touch of orange. Nice fruity character, moderate acidity, but balanced by some tiny sweetness, dry finish with astringency, a bit dirty.

750mL bottle, pours an opaque, murky, filky, dark orange with a small white head. Aroma brings out lots of tart plums upfront, with spicy prickly pear, and a little oak. Flavour is rather abrasive, with tart plums, spicy pear, some oak, and intense acidity. As usual, very puckering and palate-destroying. Spicy and puckering. It's alright, but as usual, not super impressed with Rare Barrel.

Bottle at Toronado SD. Hazy orange with a small white head. Aroma of funk, peach, some oak and light malt. The same in the taste. Nicely balanced and with a pleasant sour finish.

Bottle. Pours a cloudy pink orange with small white head leaving spotty lacing. The aroma is berry, citrus, plum skin, oak. Thin body, light tartness, similar flavors to nose but more subtle on fruit, good.
