Butty Bach is a Welsh term meaning ‘little friend’ – and this charmingly smooth premium ale has certainly made more than a few friendships in its time. We brew it using Maris Otter and Crystal malts together with locally grown Fuggles, Goldings and Bramling Cross hops. With such fine ingredients, no wonder it remains a firm favourite.

500ml bottle. Clear orangey, pale golden colour with average, thick, creamy, fairly lasting, minimally lacing, white head. Strawy, minimally grainy aroma, hoppy overtones with a touch of gooseberry. Taste is minimally sweet, pale malty, hoppy overtones with hints of gooseberry. Unspectacular.

Northeast Bucket List Trip Beer #30. Bottle shared by maniac. Thanks! Pours a clear pale amber with a thin fizzy head. Decent head retention. Aroma of toasted malt, spicy hops, citrus. The taste is toasted malt, caramel, spicy, herbal hops. Thin-medium bodied, mild lingering bitterness.

On cask at Broom Hall Inn near Stratford upon Avon. Golden colour with off white minimal head. Malt aroma with some floweryness. Malt and hop flavour with a hoppy finish.

Bottle from a supermarket behemoth; clear golden yellow pour with frothy white head, grain and grass aroma, a hint of citrus hop and some pale malts quite creamy mouthfeel.

Bottle at home on Christmas day. Thanks to my sister. Golden orange coloured pour with a thin white head that fades to a thin film. Aroma is sweet grain honey and dried fruit. Flavour is a nice delicate mix of honey and toast malt with nice aromatic fruit and berry. Crisp medium light body with medium carbonation. Tasty bitter.

Bottle from Hay Wines, Ledbury, Herefordshire. Clear gold. Thin, lasting, white head. Aroma of red fruit and biscuity malt. Taste is red fruit sweetness initially. Quite full bodied, with the sweetness giving way to a dry, light bitter finish.
