Butty Bach is a Welsh term meaning ‘little friend’ – and this charmingly smooth premium ale has certainly made more than a few friendships in its time. We brew it using Maris Otter and Crystal malts together with locally grown Fuggles, Goldings and Bramling Cross hops. With such fine ingredients, no wonder it remains a firm favourite.

Bottle from RealAle.com. Pours light amber with a creamy white head. Fruity, almost apple/pear aroma. Flavor is light caramel with some spicy fruit. Mildly spicy. It’s pretty tasty. Finishes both malty and bitter. And fruity.

Small white head. Hazy yellow body. Faint floral earthy buttery aroma. Dry-sweetish honey earth and plastic taste with floral fruity notes. Mild mouthfeel. Mid-bodied. Dry floral mealy earthy aftertaste. Low on bitterness and taste. Kind of unusual profile. Not great. (0.5l bottle, RealAle.com.)

(Cask at Pullman, Helsinki) Poured amber and almost clear with small, sparse and white head. Aroma contained toffee, strawberry and malts. Palate was medium bodied with low carbonation. Flavours were malts, strawberry, toffee, mildly pine and bitterness. Aftertaste was malty. A dull one but it may be partly due to poor conditioning.
