Butty Bach is a Welsh term meaning ‘little friend’ – and this charmingly smooth premium ale has certainly made more than a few friendships in its time. We brew it using Maris Otter and Crystal malts together with locally grown Fuggles, Goldings and Bramling Cross hops. With such fine ingredients, no wonder it remains a firm favourite.

bottle, bought somewhere in the Welsh valleys. Deep clear golden yellow, mid-sized head. Fruity nose. Bitter-sweet, resiny hoppy with a shy citrus character. Good.

Cask at the Old Fox, Birmingham on the evening of December 29th, 2008. Clean, fresh, textured bitter, pale gold with great clarity of body and a foamy head which dissipates medium term. Thirstquenching, rounded with hop in the aftertaste - not fantastic but a good first drink.

Cask (handpump) @ Pennybacks, B1, Birmingham. Clear medium amber color with a small, virtually none, off-white head. Aroma is moderate malty, caramel, toffee, butter. Flavor is moderate sweet, light acidic and bitter, with a average duration. (Sweetness is toffee / butter / caramel, acidic / bitternes is fruit). Body is medium, texture is oily, carbonation is flat.

Cask. Golden colour, mediumsized white head. Aroma is honey, wood, some hints of nectar and sap. Flavour is quite much the same, with focus on nectarand honey. Refreshing and good session beer.

Cask-conditioned at the Inn on the Green, Bristol. Golden coloured with a moderate white head. Sweet aroma with some tired hops. Flavour of malt with a trudging bitter finish. Seriously dull.

Bottle conditioned: a radiant pale amber colour, poured with a thick head, quite likely. Malty aroma, taste starts malt then hops kick in, unpleasant vegetable aftertaste.

Bottle picked up at SH Jones Bicester. A dark golden colour, that gave off some malt in the aroma but little else. Taste wise I thought this ok but a little bit thin despite the strength bit sweet and malty but nowt special.
