750ml bottle, aged the better part of two years at least. Still hold up quite well, massive beige head on top of a thick, opaque brown body. Pretty much the best Christmas beer out there? Deep, chewy, thick malt tones....dough, chocolate, well integrated spice tones. Pleasant fruity trappist yeast tones. Phenomenal mouthfeel, soft and fluffy, but rich. Nutmeg, orange peel, cinnamon...all faint and well incorporated. World Class.

On tap. Black colour, ruby reflexes, pretty lacing. Aroma is red fruit, raisin. Alcohol does not disturb. Light sweetness. Quite different from typical dark Belgian ales. Good!

Bottle from Dranken Geers. Christmas beer evening; shared with Anke! Pours hazy dark brown with a big, lasting, frothy, tan head. Strong aroma of licorice, mocha, toast, peanut, cookie dough, butterscotch, raisin, candied fig, candi sugar. Taste is medium to heavy malty sweet, notes of fig & raisin in balance with caramel & dough; never cloying due to a medium spicy bitterness with licorice, faint aniseed & cinnamon, not too strong; toasty accent & faintly sourish. Dryish, herbal hoppy finish, bit peppery, lingering licorice, dough, and warming liqueur alcohol. Full body, creamy texture, fizzy to lively carbonation (almost a tad too much). Balanced in its qualities of the traditional Belgian Christmas ale. Merry Christmas, indeed!

330ml bottle. Pours deep dark brown ruby colour with a very minimal beige head. Rich fruity, malty, spicy aroma. Taste is rich, sweet, malty, dried fruits, raisin, plum, spices, warming booze, finish is dry, boozy and spicy. Full bodied, average carbonation, smooth mouthfeel. Decent Christmas beer, the sheer booziness of this one reduces its drinkability somewhat... one to share I suppose.

0,33 l bottle. Pours out in a very dark brown nearly black with a small beige head. Smells sweet malty alciholic. Taste starts more dry, malty with sugar sweetness in the background. Some dark fruity elements. Hints of barrel wood. Heavy and complex, no easy drinking stuff.
