Tap (Pogromcy Meatów, Wrocław). Dark with belgian notes and delicate hint of booze. Sweet with oily consistency.

It's not a rare IPA, or an aged beer, but it's fucking good. Belgian strongs shouldn't be left behind.

Corked bottle, 0.75l, shared with Muc. Aroma of berries, yeast, spices and alcohol. Pour clear ruby brown color with thin creamy pinkish white head and average sparkling appearance. Taste starts medium sweet malty and fruity, following is mild yeasty and spicy with candy sugar notes, mouthfeel is warming, although alcohol is well hidden, while finish is mild bitter. Full body, thick texture and lively carbonation in palate. Pre-Christmas surprise...

Bottle from Beers of Europe, Bury St Edmunds (online order). Dark brown, almost opaque. Lots of visible carbonation, and a film of beige head. Plum pudding, crème brûlée, chocolate-covered cherries and yeast in the aroma. Sweet spicy taste with candy sugar yeast to the fore. Hoppy bitterness gives colour to the short finish. More chocolate, Christmas pudding and plum brandy on the finish. Brilliant.

So maybe I should not be sampling Christmas Ale the first really hot weekend of the summer. But it is St. Bernardus, why not? Put away after a spring trip to eastern New Mexico, saved until now. The 750 ml bottle gives an amber-brown body and a healthy beige head. An inviting nose, I detect yeasty bread and tropical fruit, maybe a little floral. I taste to get currants, figs, some hard candy sweetness. It finishes dry in the mouth, very little bitterness. Glad I got a try at this. Other Belgians deliver more.

Lecker!

33cl bottle from Sip, Tallinn. Pours slightly hazy dark amber with a lasting, off-white head. Malty and fruity aroma with Belgian yeast, hints of bananas, caramel and mild spices. Medium sweet with classic Belgian flavours and a light bitterness. Well integrated alcohol. Pleasant winter warmer.
