Troubadour Imperial Stout is a real Imperial Stout, but with a Belgian twist. The beer is almost black and has a solid crème coloured head. It is a powerful beer with strong roasted fragrances. You can taste notes of chocolate, toffee and coffee, followed by a bitter aftertaste.

Bottled from Burg Bieren, BB 03 Oct 2015, large sample, served into a tulip glass. Dark brown color, medium frothy light-brown head. Aroma of milk chocolate, slight coffee, sweet candy, hint of mocha, not as much roasted malts. Taste is bit bitter, medium sweet. Creamy mouthfeel, medium carbonation. Like their Magma, with a Belgian twist to an American style, but with the balance on the right side. It still is a RIS, but with some sweet candy notes. Very likeable.

On tap at Brugge beer festival 2014, Belgium. A black coloured pour with a medium beige head on top. Roasty, malty, chocolate aroma. Tastes similar, roasty, malty, chocolate, quite bitter. Quite good but ought to be more complex.

bruin/zwart met schuimige bruine kraag aroma van drop, mout, chocolade, caramout en gebrande mouten smaken: redelijk zoet, redelijk bitter, licht zurige toets, zeer sterk, donkere fruiten, sterk gemout, chocolade, lichte koffie en drop volle body, romig in de mond, lage co2, prima spul !

750 ml bottle into signature tulip glass, bottled on 6/5/2012. Pours lightly hazy deep reddish brown color with a 2 finger dense and rocky khaki head with incredible retention, that reduces to a nice cap that lasts. Dense soapy lacing clings on the glass, with a good amount of streaming carbonation retaining the head. Aromas of chocolate, roasted malt, cocoa, toast, toffee, raisin, fig, pear, clove, herbal, and yeast earthiness. Very nice aromas with good balance and complexity of roasted malt and yeast ester notes; with good strength. Taste of chocolate, cocoa, roasted malt, coffee, toast, toffee, raisin, fig, clove, herbal, and yeast earthiness. Lingering notes of chocolate, cocoa, coffee, roasted malt, raisin, fig, toast, toffee, clove, herbal, and yeast earthiness on the finish for a while. Damn nice complexity and balance of dark/roasted malt and yeast ester flavors; with lush robustness and no cloying flavors after the finish. Medium-high carbonation and medium-full bodied; with a very creamy and silky mouthfeel that is great. Alcohol is very well hidden with only a slight warming noticed after the finish. Overall this is a really excellent Belgian imperial stout! All around great complexity and balance of dark/roasted malt and yeast ester flavors; and very smooth to sip on. A very enjoyable offering.

Bouteille: Almost clear, deep-ruby amber coloured, big rocky and creamy tanned head, rich nose of bitter-chocolate, nuts, dark-malt and vinous fruits: moderate to solid sweet-bitter flavour, full bodied, pretty soft; slightly drier chocolatey and port-vinous finish with a bitter malty aftertaste. Graet and moreish…

Big beige head. Clear deep dark red barely translucent body with light carbonation. Earthy chocolate confectionery aroma with fruity notes. Dry-sweet earthy chocolatey nougat taste with resiny roasty notes. Mid-bodied. Mild, fluffy mouthfeel, slight lingering heat. Dryish earthy chocolatey nougat aftertaste with honeyish toffee notes. Traces of burnt toast, with a fruity background. Very complex and delicate. Lovely! (0.75l bottle, from Kihoskh, Copenhagen.)
