Choco Rainforest: Barrel aged imperial stout with cacao nibs & vanilla.

On the nose chocolate, coconut vanilla and caramel which follow through to the palate where the barrel character comes through with raisin, liquorish and dark chocolate dominating.

Draft at Hair of the Dog, Phrom Phong, Bangkok. Poured almost black in colour with a round frothy tan head. The aroma is roasty malt, floral boozy alcohol. The flavour is strong liqourice bitter, light sweet, with a smooth, roasty, super light sweet chocolate, big warm boozy alcohol bitter palate. Over medium bodied with flat carbonation. I’m sorry to say this was disappointing. The alcohol totally dominated and considering it’s supposed to be a chocolate stout, the chocolate was hardly present at all. Unrefined. Maybe it’s a travel or storage issue.

Tap at Second a Draft for Carbon Brews’ 1st anniversary event. Pitch black pour with thin tan head. Aroma is wood, vanilla, chocolate, booze. Taste is definitely chocolate-forward, but not overwhelmingly so. Good bitter bite, along with wood, alcohol, leather, some acidity in the finish. Lasting warmth. Palate is medium-rich but carbonation is still present. Lasting finish with chocolate, alcohol, bitterness. Very nice. I like that it’s definitely a chocolate barrel aged imperial stout, but not crazy chocolatey.

Super fudgy chocolate. Jet black with a small brown head. It seems chocolate and a nice soft vanilla with a bit of barrel and booze in the finish. Well integrated and pleasant.
