This top-fermented dark beer is brewed with roasted malts. The secondary fermentation in the bottle gives it its powerful and pleasant character. Reddish-brown with a creamy and persistent head. The nose is quite complex, powerful and full-bodied with earthy notes of old wood. First aromas are powerful (alcohol), spicy (wood) yet always well balanced, leading up to a pleasantly caramelised finish. The round mouthfeel and roasted malty flavour reinforce the aromas of coffee and toffee (molasses and caramelised butter). Its dark colour and warm strength make Waterloo Double Dark a delicious beer!

Bottle. A reddish dark brown beer topped by a dense, light beige head. Dried fruits, dark sugars, cedar wood, raisins, some maltyness and a faint touch of alcohol. A bit sweet on the palate maybe, but it’s not sticky in any way. Dried fruits, caramel, dark sugars and raisins. Some bitterness too. Full body and a pleasant carbonation level. Lasting finish. Pretty nice this one, tasteful and Belgian in a wonderful way. Could be a bit more pronounced though. 140717

Bardzo dobre klasztorne Double. Sporo lepsze od wersji tripel. Piana spora trwala i kremowa. Kolor ciemnobrazowy, bardzo ciemny. Zapach pieczonych tostow z marmolada oraz moreli suszonej. W smaku piernikowo migdalowe. Super Double Dark Belgian Ale.

33 cl. bottle @ home. Procured from Carrefour. BBF 05/03/2015.Pours a murky red hued mahogany with a creamy beige head. Smells of overripe syrupy dark fruits, slight jam, dark bread malts with a slightly spunky spice edge. Taste is thick caramel syrup, warming, slightly boozy, very thick dark bread, hint black bread, syrupy dark fruits, light bitter spices, slight cocoa and small hint of chocolate, syrupy dark bread present the beer, sort of,… hint bitter herbs. Obv. syrupy but not particularly heavy body, bit too high carb. Simple, very straightforward but has a lot of fight and life in it than expected. Quite nice actually.
