Trappist ale brewed with spices. We brewed a beer that we describe as 'slightly unruly'--our Trappist 8 is a beer you must take time to understand. Chestnut-colored and bottle-conditioned, with aroma of herbs and spices; initially floral and slightly sweet; character develops from light caramel to a lovely, dry, hoppy bitterness as the flavor opens. Brewed within the walls of Zundert Trappist Monastery by monks.

330 mL bottle poured, picked up at Hop and Hound. A unique find around here, and an interesting beer. Dark but clean copper appearance. Lasting, active fizz head. Cool taste up front. Dark fruit, soft. Hinted bran like sweet malt background. Touch of an herbal, spice quality that I really enjoy. Really good.

330 ml bottle. Pours a dark copper color with big fluffy head. Aromas of toffee, and candi sugar, golden raisins, and sweet malts. Flavors of candi sugar, mulled wine, dark fruit, caramel malts and La Trappe style yeast. (Hey maybe they should oak age this and start a numbered series...)

Bottle: Poured an amber with off-white cream head. Aroma is fruit and Belgian esters. Taste is lots of Belgian yeast esters, fruity, carbonated.

(Bottle) Reddish brown colour, hazy, with lasting frothy beige head. Malty nose with notes of caramel, dried fruit, dark bread, brown sugar, orange peel and spicy yeast. Malty taste with caramel, dried fruit, brown sugar, dark bread, orange peel, spices and a slightly vinous finish with a mild spicy bitterness. More than medium body, with a certain sweetness. Maybe not the most complex Trappist beer, but tasty and solid. Nice one.

Bottle 33 cl. Bronze color, a bit of creamy thin foam. Aroma: fruit esters, complex alcohols, a bit of citrus, toffee and something spicy. Taste: rather dry, although the light malt sweetness, light fruits, candies and wine, wild almond, warming.
