“IPAs are great, and one of my favorite styles. Hop and yeast varieties create an infinite palate for delicious drinkable flavor explorations. Darker malts are just too heavy to allow these other beautiful flavors to shine through.”

- Ron Jeffries

Rugged Lands - American IPA with Northwest Chinook, Michigan Chinook, Falconer’s Flight and Mosaic hops. Lush hop forward tropical notes of tangerines, oranges, guavas, peaches and nectarines.

Can from The Gull, North Vancouver; packaged 05/03/19, 4 months old
Hazy blond colour. The aroma is slightly dank, armpit, old hops. Dry mouthfeel, crisp malt, strong bitterness, harsh finish.
Modern concept, too old.

16 oz. can, pours a clear golden blonde with a small white head. Aroma brings out bright piney hops upfront, followed by some citrus, and crisp biscuity malt. Flavour is bright and punchy, with piney hops, followed by citrus, some dankness, and biscuity malt. Bright and vibrant. Good stuff.

16 ounce can into tulip glass, canned on 5/3/2019. Pours fairly crystal clear medium golden/amber color with a 1-2 finger dense and rocky off white head with fantastic retention, that reduces to a nice cap that lasts. Dense foamy lacing clings on the glass, with a fair amount of streaming carbonation. Fantastic appearance. Aromas of big tangerine, red grapefruit, lemon, lime, peach, pineapple, apricot, passion fruit, papaya, mango, honeydew melon, guava, blueberry, gooseberry, citrus peel/rind, wood, peppercorn, pine, cracker, white bread dough, toasted biscuit, light honey, and herbal/floral/grassy earthiness. Damn nice aromas with great balance and complexity of citrus/fruity/tropical/fairly earthy hops and moderate pale malt notes; with great strength. Taste of huge tangerine, red grapefruit, lemon, lime, peach, pineapple, apricot, passion fruit, papaya, mango, honeydew melon, guava, blueberry, gooseberry, citrus peel/rind, wood, peppercorn, pine, cracker, white bread dough, toasted biscuit, light honey, and herbal/floral/grassy earthiness. Light-moderate pine, citrus peel/rind, herbal, floral, woody, grassy, peppery bitterness on the finish. Lingering notes of tangerine, red grapefruit, lemon, lime, peach, pineapple, apricot, passion fruit, papaya, mango, honeydew melon, guava, blueberry, gooseberry, citrus peel/rind, wood, peppercorn, pine, cracker, white bread dough, toasted biscuit, and herbal/floral/grassy earthiness on the finish for a while. Fantastic complexity, robustness, and balance of citrus/fruity/tropical/fairly earthy hops and moderate pale malt flavors; with an awesome malt/bitterness balance, and no astringent hop flavors after the finish. Light-moderate increasing dryness from lingering bitterness. Medium carbonation and body; with a very smooth, moderately creamy/bready/grainy/sticky, and fairly crisp/resinous/rindy balanced mouthfeel that is great. Minimal warming alcohol for 7.3%. Overall this is an fantastic IPA. All around fantastic complexity, robustness, and balance of citrus/fruity/tropical/fairly earthy hops and moderate pale malt flavors; very smooth, easy, and fairly crisp to drink with the modestly bitter/resinous/drying finish; not overly aggressive. Amazing Chinook, Falconers Flight, Mosaic profile. Extremely juicy, vibrant, and fairly dank/earthy hops; with an awesome balancing clean pale malt backbone. Minimal residual sweetness with crisp resin dryness. A highly enjoyable offering, and outstanding west coast style example.
