Brewed with well water (the original well at the Old Brewery, sunk in 1758, is still in use, with the hard well water being drawn from 85 feet underground), malted barley, roasted malt, yeast and hops. Fermented in ‘stone Yorkshire squares’.

Old rating. Bottle from Old Town. Deep, rich oil black with a modest tan head. Nice aromas of coffee and roasted malts with a slight smoked quality. Taste is more of the same. Clean and dry finish with a hint of salt. --- Beer merged from original tick of Taddy Porter on 10 Jun 2017 at 12:15

Review based on the BJCP2008 guidelines (style 12A). Bottle 35.5 cl - Batch L14219. AROMA: mild sweet roasty aroma with notes of molasses, sweet chocolate, toffee and nutty (walnuts). No fruity esters and no diacetyl. APPEARANCE: dark Brown color with ruby highlights and translucent. moderate tanned head with good retention. TASTE: moderate roasted flavour with notes of coffee, walnuts, dark chocolate and a slight pinch of toffee. medium-low to low bitterness with a semi-dry finish. no hop flavours, esters nor diacetyl. PALATE: medium-light body with moderately low carbonation. OVERALL: a very good example of what a brown porter should be. highly recommended.

A colablack beer with a medium and beige head. The nose is roasted, coffee, sourness of milk, quite strong sweetness of malts. Taste has sweet malts, nice roastiness, some coffee, the end is dryer with some dark chocolate. Medium+ bodied, smooth carbonation. Rich of malts, quite sweet porter, this is good beer with great balance.

Bottle from Santa (McTapps), thanks! Rich malty aroma, toffee, chocolate. Clear dark brown colour, short lasting head. Taste manages to pack serious malty flavours (chocolate, dark roasted) and at the same time quite thin body. Rather sweet, but not too much. Good beer.
