Due to the record-setting windstorms that hit the coast of British Columbia in late December 2019, Riot lost power just as a 2,000 litre batch of beer was about to be boiled. With some quick thinking, the brewers pitched some Lactobacillus to sour the wort at room temperature, and started the boil when power was restored three days later, hoping for the best.
Luckily, the experiment was successful, and following the addition of several other ingredients, Sour Outage Passionfruit Plum Dark Sour (4.5% abv, 6 IBU) was deemed ready for release.

Plum and some tropical notes. Dirty brown with a decent white head. Soured plum, some earthy notes and a dry finish.

On tap at 12 Kings, pours a deep dark red, bordering maroon, with a small off-white head. Aroma brings out balsamic and tart red fruits. Flavour is quite perfumey with dark red fruits, a touch of balsamic, and acidity. Not a beer of complexity or good integration - quite perfumey and acetic. Okay.

Draught @ Parkside. Ugly light brown, not much head. Tart, lots of passionfruit, finishes with a sour blast, and the plum does show a little bit in the finish.
