Straffe Hendrik Quadrupel, launched in 2010, is an intense beer, dark in colour and full in taste.
The aroma is elegant, spicy and slightly roasted.
The sophisticated blend of special kinds of malt give the beer a complex character, combining a delicate dryness with hints of cariander, dark fruits, anise and roasted chestnuts. The palate finishes in a syrupy taste. The refermentation in the bottle creates a living beer that will evolve over the years.

The aroma is pleasant, noble dark fruits, burnt bread crust, burnt caramel, light liqueur alcohol. The beer foams well, but the creamy layer with large bubbles falls quite quickly. The taste is similar to the aroma. The body is slimmed down by the addition of sugar, the fruitiness adds drinkability, caramel, brown sugar, a bit of licorice, figs, dates. A slightly burnt, slightly herbal bitterness with a hint of alcohol warming in the throat. A pleasant but at the same time dangerously drinkable beer.

One of my all-time favorite breweries. First discovered them over 25 years ago ordering beers for my bar. They have been consistently excellent in all regards. I was so pleasantly surprised to find there is a version I hadn't tried.

Aromas are dark malt, roast, candy sugar, spice and maybe some fortified wine. Flavors are similar to nose with a very interesting balance between sweet, tart, bitter along with texture. Creamy in one sense yet enough carbonation to cut through it. A little astringency in the finish to balance the sweetness and a bit of alcohol. Really good. Great find!

Bottle, corked and caged from the lcbo. Dark brown pour, large beige head. Loads of dark fruit, bread, chewy, sticky malts, some minerals and brown sugar. Full mouth feel, lively carb. Low bitterness, semi sweet finish with more dark candied fruit and molasses.

Pours a deep dark amber/brown with a slight beige head. Potent aroma of dark fruits, chocolate toffee, caramel, brown sugar, coffee. Very nice quadrupel.
