Straffe Hendrik Quadrupel, launched in 2010, is an intense beer, dark in colour and full in taste.
The aroma is elegant, spicy and slightly roasted.
The sophisticated blend of special kinds of malt give the beer a complex character, combining a delicate dryness with hints of cariander, dark fruits, anise and roasted chestnuts. The palate finishes in a syrupy taste. The refermentation in the bottle creates a living beer that will evolve over the years.
EBC 100, 22° plato.

Bottle 0,33ltr: Brownish red hazy brew with an dry sweetbitter taste, warm mouthfeel. Due the heavy alcohol this got not so ridicoulus sweet like some counterparts.

330mL bottle. Pours very dark brown with large, foamy beige head. Aroma has dried fruit, caramel malts, estery Belgian yeast. Flavour has craisins, dates, caramel, some estery Belgian yeast. Maybe a touch too much sweetness. Solid carbonation. Nice.

Caramelised malt, roasted malt, and dried fruits aroma. Complex taste of toffee, red and dried fruits, malt, and spices. Dry and warm alcohol feeling aftertaste. Quite heavy.

Pours a quite clear brown, looks almost black in the glass with an off-white/greyish head that's very big for such high abv and also shows very good persistence and some lacing. Average intensity in the aroma: strong fruitiness, even per style with dark/dried fruits in a dominant position but also some citric hints (chinotto aka citrus myrtifolia, doesn't seem to have an english translation). On the background: brown sugar, biscuity and slightly caramelly malts, licorice. Quite complex but maybe a bit too much fruity oriented. There's more balance and very nice flavour definition in the taste. Notes as per aroma, maybe with a hint of spiciness. Alcohol is pretty well hidden, but there's a nice warming feel. A pretty sweet beer as obvious, but overall in very good balance, with chinotto notes bringing a bit of bitterness, nice attenuation and a relatively dry finish. Dense bodied, medium to high carbonation; feels very full/dense. Excellent strong dark ale.

Bruine suiker, zoethout, iets bitterder dan de classic Belgische bieren, maar vind dat dit jaar meevallen gewoon ok weer

Pours deep mahogany into snifter. Tan micro head with excellent retention recedes leaving trailing sheets. Dark caramel, fig, and prune aromas. Sharp and full with sweet molasses, prune and fig upfront turning to earthy pumpernickel in the dry lasting finish.
