A striking, robust porter full of warmth and chocolate malt. An assortment of Belgian specialty malts form a complex structure of toasted grain and caramel flavors. Dark chocolate malt makes this porter black as night and infuses it with its distinct intense, chocolate essence.

Eugene is a robust porter named after Eugene V. Debs, an American union leader and activist who led the Pullman Railroad strike in 1894.

Can pour into nonic pint glass from Julio’s Liquors. Appearance is dark brown with mahogany tinge, no discernible sparkle, finger-width foamy light brown head with poor retention and no lacing. Aroma is strong toffee, roasted malts, mild chocolate and vanilla. Taste is sweet roasted malts with mild chocolate, dark fruits, late roasted bitterness. Palate is medium bodied with thin, creamy texture, lively carbonation and mix of sweet and bitter roasted malts. Overall, not as chocolatey as advertised but nice nonetheless. Better as it warms.

Non Beer Trip Beer Trip Beer #25. 12 ounce can, 3/8/16. Dark brown, large foamy tan head, good retention. Aroma of strong roasted malts and clay almost bordering on bandaid. The taste is chocolate, cherries, roasted malt, caramel. Thin bodied, low carbonation. Disappointing.

12 oz. can. Dark, opaque brown, with a medium, bubbly, light brown head. The aroma is roasted coffee, molasses, a bit of licorice, chicory, and very light tart cherries. Sweet, with a light roasted bitterness. Medium to heavy body, syrupy, acerbic, and a little harsh. This is a nice, lightly roasted, easy porter.

Can from Mitsuya’s. Drank straight from the can. Roasted malt armoas with some root beer, espresso and caco. Body is very porter like, with a root beer like carbonation. Dry and roasty with some mild bacon on the finish. Very enjoyable.
