A striking, robust porter full of warmth and chocolate malt. An assortment of Belgian specialty malts form a complex structure of toasted grain and caramel flavors. Dark chocolate malt makes this porter black as night and infuses it with its distinct intense, chocolate essence.

Eugene is a robust porter named after Eugene V. Debs, an American union leader and activist who led the Pullman Railroad strike in 1894.

Can. A- Tobacco, roasty, mild cherry, subtle smoke. A- Dark brown color, dark liquid, beige head. T- Tobacco, roasted malt, cherrywood, mild vanilla, plums, P- Medium body, average texture, average carbonation, balanced finish. O- Wow this was good! One of the best if not the best no frills porter I've had. I always wanted to try Bean Gene, the coffee forward Imperial version of this and now I want it even more. There complex and balanced flavors that really just tied the whole beer together. A tiny afterthought of sweetness cuts through all the roasted malt. If you smoked the malt it would almost taste like Alaskan Smoked Porter.

Pours near black with a tan head. It smells of roast malt, coffee, and chocolate and tastes of roast chocolate malt with mild bitterness. Quite good.

Can. Deep brown body with a rich, tan head. Aroma of roasted malts, chocolate, light espresso, vanilla. The flavor is moderately sweet and lightly bitter. It finishes lightly to moderately sweet and lightly to moderately bitter. Medium to full body, watery/velvety texture, moderate carbonation. Taste of sweet chocolate, sugar, roasted malts, mocha. Hint of vanilla. On the sweet side and that's OK. Nice drinking.

12 oz can bought in Boston, MA. Clear dark mahogany pour with a light brown head and very good retention. Decent lacing. Medium body. Molasses flavor dominates with some bitter dark chocolate notes. Eh. 6.8 ABV is well hidden.

Refrigerated 12 oz. aluminum can poured into an English pint glass. Black with medium beige head. Aroma is chocolate malt, medium body, creamy texture, medium carbonation, and pretty good small-bubble lacing. Taste is chocolate, some nuts, a little dark malt and hop balance.

On tap at Blind Tiger, pours dark brown / black with a small tan head. Aroma brings out toasted malt upfront, not much else. Flavour is along the same lines, with a meaty quality to the toasted malt. Big body despite the low gravity. Not especially complex but a thick feel in the palate. Very good.
