The Harvest Pale Ale

Feom tap at MikkellerBar. Pours hazy yellow with a small white head. Aroma is grapefruity and light bretty. Fruity, peachy and mango. Smooth citrusy and crisp hoppy into the finish.

There’s a lot of sweet citrus on the nose, followed by very earthy notes (almost like a stale bag of chips) and then a lot of resin at the finish. All up, the aroma it’s a bit unpleasant for my taste. In the mouth there’s some orange flavour with a fairly restrained hop presence and more of that yeasty earthiness. There’s little of the hoppy bitterness you’d expect from a beer that bills itself as being hopped to the hilt, and it finishes a little short. 20 August 2012 - Had another bottle of this, not realising I’d had it before. I didn’t notice so much earthiness this time, and certainly no stale bag of chips, so I wonder if I got a bad bottle last time. That’s not to say I don’t get any yeast - certainly it’s still there. Other than that, the flavours were the same as last time. Still a little thin and short on the palate.

Bottle, 12C. Pours pale gold with a large fluffy white head. Smells of grapefruit, blood oranges and a little resin with an odd (but not unpleasant) Wit-like yeast note - although a lot less than some others look to have found. The hop aroma is fresh but mild. There’s light nectarine sweetness underneath aromatic but modest bitterness. Utterly frivolous throwing around of fresh hops with just enough malt to make it work. Fresh and lovely seasonal session beer. [3.6] [5/11] 2011 version: as above, but with more tropical fruit notes in both aroma and taste - lychees and passionfruit I suppose - and a touch of spice in the finish. That (odd yeast?) character is there again, but I still don’t mind it. The hops are interesting and very unusual. [3.6][4/12]2012 version. Hazy yellowish orange with a modest white head. Aroma of oranges, lychees, gooseberries, menthol, marijuana. Fruity with a dry and quite bitter finish that’s still overmatched by the green hops. [3.6]2013 version - again different hops. Aroma is less tropical and green - a little cleaner with lime joining lychees and passionfruit. Bitterness is higher and the finish is dry and buzzing. Liked this version better. [3.7]

From a 330ml bottle on 15/5/2010. Has an unusual yeasty citrus aroma - as claimed on the label, it’s orange that comes immediately to mind. This one was packed with as much yeast sediment as I’ve found in a beer. Flavour wise, it’s as curious as its aroma. Citrus fruits predominate (orange again, and some lemon) but the big hop kick which is promised just doesn’t eventuate, with the bitterness moderate at best.

Pours amber with a large head.Nose shows ridiculously fresh hops... like that green, just picked flowers and fresh mown grass smell. Lots of resin, very sweet, very spicy. Amazing. Plenty of cookie dough malt to back it up as well.Loads more cookie dough as a flavour, along with a fair bit of bready malt before transitioning to a hint of grainy-ness. some nutty notes in there as well, pecans or something.Lively carbonation is a bit excessive, but the body is quite smooth.
