Pitch black pour with a thin off-white head that disappears quite quickly, but still leaves a bit of lacing. Strong aroma shows a roasted malts base that borders burnt caramel, with vivid coffee notes. There's strong sweetness too, though it stays in background, with fruit cake memories. Slight herbal and spicy hints too. Very rich and also well integrated. Taste is potent too, with a nice warming feel. Very high in both sweetness and bitterness, the result is overall perfectly balanced, with none standing out in both taste and afteraste. Roasted malts, coffee, fruit cake, hints of burnt caramel, a semi-dry finish with a herbal/balsamic hint and a slightly spicy aftertaste. Again, rich but perfectly balanced, hides the abv pretty well. Dense bodied with low to medium carbonation: a great, soft, creamy, full mouthfeel. Impressive

Beer tasting at FOB, Rimini, Italy. Pours dark plum with almost no foam. Aroma is roasted, somehow fruity and licorice. Body is dense and sticky, with limited tickling carbonation. Taste is sweet and roasted, with some spicing going up your nose. Finish is long and toasted.

Dec. ’16. A 0.5 l bottle at Birra+, Rome. It poured a pitch black body with a small brown head. Roasted malt aroma with coffee, caramel, raisins and some licorice. A bit peaty as well. Lightly sweet flavor, balanced with moderate bitterness, malty with lots of coffee, chocolate, dried fruits and peat to leather smoked notes. Quite complex, I should've elaborated this better but it was a rough day on my RB duty. Full bodied with round and smooth mouthfeel. Long finish followed the flavor with earthy and smoked notes besides pleasant roasted malty ones. No remarks on alcohol presence, but I remember it was warming. A pleasant, well crafted imperial porter.
