Barrel-aged in Woodford Reserve barrels. Brooklyn Black Ops does not exist. However, if it did exist, it would be a robust stout concocted by the Brooklyn brewing team under cover of secrecy and hidden from everyone else at the brewery. Supposedly, "Black Ops" was aged for four months in bourbon barrels, bottled flat, and re-fermented with Champagne yeast, creating big chocolate and coffee flavors with a rich underpinning of vanilla-like oak notes. They say it’s vanishingly rare. We have no idea what they’re talking about.

Black color with a black and creamy tan head with good duration. Aroma has notes of Bourbon and roasted mals with vanilla notes. Flavor is slightly sweet, high presence of borbon, licorice and coffee beans with dark fruits hints. The final is bittery with bourbon notes, light to medium body with a minimal carbonation.

Bottle at Burger Bar. Pitch black pour with a generous dark khaki head leaving spotty lace. Nose is prominent bourbon with hints of wood vanilla and dark fruit, Taste is less pronounced bourbon though it does increase as it warms with light toffee and medium bitter chocolate and coffee. Medium full creamy mouth with soft carbonation. Some subtle layers but the bourbon is dominant.

The beer pours pitch black with a medium dark brown head that diminishes slowly. Patchy lacing on the glass. Aroma of roasted malt, chocolate and oak. Full body with flavors of milk chocolate, roasted malt, vanilla and oak. Phenol alcohol presence as well. The finish is rich and roasty with chocolate and coffee flavors lingering in the aftertaste. Very good overall, but would be stellar with a little more age to round down the alcohol a bit.

Bottle, 2012. Pours inky black, medium brown head, dissipates fairly slowly, good lacing. Aroma is woody cocoa, bourbon, vanilla. Flavor is very bourbon and oak tannin. Chocolate, vanilla. Medium sweet, light bitter, fairly astringent, hot and rough. Medium light body, lingering heat.
