Barrel-aged in Woodford Reserve barrels. Brooklyn Black Ops does not exist. However, if it did exist, it would be a robust stout concocted by the Brooklyn brewing team under cover of secrecy and hidden from everyone else at the brewery. Supposedly, "Black Ops" was aged for four months in bourbon barrels, bottled flat, and re-fermented with Champagne yeast, creating big chocolate and coffee flavors with a rich underpinning of vanilla-like oak notes. They say it’s vanishingly rare. We have no idea what they’re talking about.

Bottle bought @ Systembolaget. Pours black with a rather big fizzy mocha head that leaves some sparse lacing on the glass while dissipating. Smell is sweet and malty with roasted malts, caramel, dark roast coffee, dark chocolate, vanilla fudge, chocolate brownies, sweet liquorice candy and bourbon alcohol. Taste is sweet, slightly bitter and malty with roasted malts, burnt caramel, vanilla fudge, dark chocolate, dark roast coffee, brown sugar, chocolate mudcake, raisins in chocolate, bourbon alcohol and hints of minerals. Mouthfeel is soft, round, tiny creamy, slightly boozy and medium to full bodied. Finish is sweet and bitter with roasted malts, burnt caramel, vanilla fudge, bitter chocolate, dark roast coffee, cocoa powder, bourbon alcohol and hints of raisins and prunes. Very heavy on the chocolate. Bit hot and bit lacking in complexity and texture. Still fairly tasty though... --- Beer merged from original tick of Black Ops on 14 Dec 2014 at 22:06 - Score: 8. Bottle thanks to Dmac shared at Anchorage Dec ’14 Tasting: Poured black brown with light brown head. Aroma is sticky sweet booziness and rugged malts that stick to the nose. Taste was sweet chocolate, vanilla, very malty, and very lively on the palate.

Bottle at home. Has a pitch black colour with a medium, light beige, compact head. Roasted aroma with leather, licorice, lactose, aceton, oak, coffee, vanilla and chocolate. The flavour has more bourbon, roasted malt and alkohol. Soft and silky mouth feel, and has a medium bitterness. A nice and well-balanced imperial stout with a distinct bourbon touch.

@zebf 2014 - Aroma of glue, grass, alcohol. Flavour has an alcolhol burn and feels spicy and dry. There’s some roasted coffee in the finish. Overall too much residual alcohol.

A true imperial stout. Strongly roasted malt with a taste of coffee and dark cacao. Has some smooth vanilla due to the Bourbon aging. Very nice.
