Weak pine and lemon zest aroma. Hazy copper, medium yellow head, nice lacing. Orange peel initially with a blast of pine needle at midpalate which then tapers off gracefully. I’ve always sensed Simcoe as being more of a piney hop, but this beer actually had more of a citrus character. It was very delicious, but not what I expected. The learning process continues....

330 ml bottle, courtesy of Cardinal Pub & Bar, Stavanger. ABV is 6.9%. Orange colour, big off-white head. Pleasant aroma of Simcoe hops, notes of tropical frruits, grapefruit and pine. The flavour has distinct hops throughout, piney and grapefruity notes, fairly dry.

Bottle. Almost clear amber, large beige head settles at an inch. Aroma is tenor-register hops over solid caramel. The citrus is more kumquat than grapefruit and there’s lots of pine needles and a little earth. Some wood too. Really lovely aroma is long and deep but not aggressive. The caramel sweetness is there but doesn’t get much of chance before the (at first) citrus bitterness kicks in. Finish seems a little short, perhaps because of the initial intensity of the bitterness.

12oz bottle. Woah, this one is fantastic! Aroma is a great simcoe hop kick. Flavor is fresh, real fresh. Smooth, hop character. Good floral boquet to this one. Solid.

Wonderful IPA. I really, really like the flavors of the Simcoe hop, so this beer appeals to me. There’s really nothing wrong with it except that it lacks some complexity that you get in a more varied hop bill. Mikkeller makes phenomenal beer. I dearly wish that it was cheaper in local stores. The aroma is particularly great. It smells like honeysuckle and oranges. The hops are strong, but the malt is just right to express their flavor. The feel is very good, the smooth hop oiliness that I want in an IPA. This beer does a great job showcasing the Simcoe hop. I hope that some American breweries take note of this beer and produce a cheaper version for me.

Hazy orangey-amber colour with a loose head. The aroma is a mix of icing sugar, sweet malts and simcoe, lending it a candied orange character. Bitter palate with orangey simcoe notes that are only a little bit bright. Decent, but a bit muddled. Needs more brightness.

11.2oz bottle
Appearance: Hazy golden with a nice big off white head and lots of lacing. Bits of hops floating in the beer.
Aroma: Strong citrus, pine Taste: Tons of citrus and grapefruit all the way through and stays with you at the finish
Wow, this is probably the best IPA I’ve had. Simcoe is my favorite hop and this beer showcases it. My next homebrew I’m going us simcoe all the way through and hope to get close to this.

Pours deep hazy amber into a snifter. Off-white head with medium retention leaves spots as it recedes to mottle surface. Sweet dark pine aromas. Sharp bitter resin and pine from front to back turning slightly to grapefruit in the lasting finish.
